Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 8th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Insomniac club member 43, Hester Hardup reporting for duty.
Thanks for all the good wishes on hubby's job, I did work a bit of a fast one as I heard rumours of 2 jobs coming up near home before they were advertised & I knew hubby would be ideal, so he had his CV done & applied just as the job details were being advertised.
We will definately still be hard up though, we don't know what the salary is yet, it may only be £60 a year more that his current wage, but his current wage was about to drop due to 'restructuring'. The big difference will be the travel costs, he will save £1500 a year.
Hugs to Beth, Molly & Dazi, healing thoughts to LW.
Unfortunately the new starter motor DS fitted to my car failed yesterday morning, so we are back to walking for me & bus for hubby to the station. DS is swapping it out today if he can.
Cottage pie for tea today.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

another one for the insomniac's club here
Well done to the Minder on his new job
well today I am going to try and do some wrapping a job I don't really like as it takes me a long time with my dodgy digits I also have to clean the bathroom as the boys have only been swishing so it needs a good going over.
I will try and have 40 winks later as I have to go to DD school to see her pick up her reward and I don't think falling asleep in the front row will be appreciated somehow.
have a good day all ((((((((((((hugs)))))))))) and congratulations as appropriate

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Morning- up early as I had an early night hence being wide awake since 5pm plus no work today so I always like to make the most of being off I'm not one for lying in.
Well done on the Minders new job.
Plan for today is to wrap up some Christmas presants - off to in laws tonight so will take all the presants for that side of the family, piles are getting smaller now the children are getting older plus I want to take them just incase the snow arrives as its a 40 mile round trip and not one for doing in the snow. Will have tea up there so thats that taken care off, last nights leftovers put into containers to be frozen so theres 3 meals for another day.

    Happy Birthday bramble :bdaycake:

Food shop today, but I don't need much apart from fresh stuff. I bought 4lbs of brussels, 2lb of carrots and 2lb parsnips from the market yesterday they are all prepared and are in the freezer, so now all I have to get done are some roasties and freeze them so Christmas day will be a doddle. I did the same last year, and it saved me an hour's worth of prep (I don't blanch my stuff because I think it affects the taste and texture.

I want to make mince pies today and freeze them and put the first coat of icing on the cake, all that is left to do is to make the chestnut torte and raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake, I have had an idea to do a festive candy cane cheesecake, so I will let you know how that turns out.

Made 2 loaves of bread yesterday so that will keep us going for a while. We bought some from Asda on Monday and it was growing its own penicillin by yesterday:(

Oh well off for my shower and then to call DD for college.

Have good days all and wrap up warm if you are going out x
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

    Morning all,
Woke this morning to find the huge cloud that's been following me has dissapeared, I plan to empty my head of all things conected to hosps, due to all poss vibes and support from you.:A It really has made a difference to me. DH walked into the sitting room last night and caught me crying, I had just read UOLYPOOL's post, he assumed I was crying about my worries, I think it may have been a bit of both. Anyhoo, the flood gates closed with the help from you and DH and I was able to post. Fast forward to today,.........

I have to get the fitters back to check the wiring to the Solar panels as the elec keeps tripping off, once they have been we are going to get the xmas trees, we always have 2 even though DH moans about it I wont budge. It's my only weakness. ;)
Think I'll have to leave going to the forest to collect greanery for the beams until tomorrow as it's gonna be gales here. I have made the swags for the inglenooks over the last few nights so they are going up this w/end. Lots of pressies wrapped and xmas treats made. I'm doing DGD1 a luxury hamper for her to take back to uni after the hols. All her favorite food she can't afford.

HESTER, £1500 is quite a saving, well done to you for having DH's CV all ready in your hot little hand. Clever you for being one step ahead. ;) Hope you get a poss email from those idiots at work.

Healing ((((Hugs)))) to DAZI, L.WOLF, HILSTEP and BRAMBLE'S DGDad. Sorry if I've missed anyone out, here's a spare one ((((hugs))))
JULIE Hope you hear about the job soon, fingers crossed for you.

MOLLY, You have been more than generous with DSon, cut yourself some slack.x

BRAMBLE, HapPy BiRtHdaY to yooooo. _party_
