does anyone know whether the above graphics are any good i was going for the aldi medion as the graphics are
NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7300SE
128 MB DDR2 memory
DVI, D-Sub VGA & TV out
Supports up to 384 MB graphics memory using NVIDIA® TurboCache™ technology*
which i know are really good as i have a geforce old version on my broken pc but the e-machines from comet has everything i want but the betetr graphics i only need the graphics to play decent games not that many just decent ones, how good does the 128MB ATiX200 handle games does anyone know,
apart from this the comet seems betetr as even with the 3 year warranty its still £50 cheaper.
I'm afraid they're both pretty poor, the nvidia one is probably slightly better but they are both very low level graphics cards and I believe both are on-board which means the ram they are using is basically sharing with your pcs ram which makes them run slower than the same thing as an expansion card with it's own memory.
Depends on what you want to do with it, if you want to just surf the net and play solitaire then those are more than enough. If you want to play games like the upcoming command & conquer 3 then you're gonna need a better graphics card. Maybe something like a x1800xt or x1900xt. I think they'll set you back about another £100 but well worth it if you want to play games.
If you have a mate who has a similar rig you could try out first then do that before parting with your cash. Also download some demos to see how the pc copes. You may well get a better deal elsewhere for the pc, if you are really serious about gaming then you'll want to get a core 2 duo instead which will give much better performance and last you a lot longer. Don't think it'll cost alot extra to get that instead, maybe another £50? Also make sure you get the right sort of graphics card, agp or pci express, probably pci express for a new pc.0 -
The ATI Radeon X200 is based upon the X300 core, which was replaced by the X1300, which is considered to be a budget card and rather lacking for playing games. The GeForce 7300 is a budget card in the 7000 series which again is rather lacking for gaming.
Tom's hardware does charts of graphics card, but doesn't review eactly these models. I would guess their closest equivalents on that web page are the X600 Pro and 7300GS, which are compared in this graph. Note that both are unimpressive (they are shown in blue bars near the bottom of the chart).
For gaming on a budget, you could try the Nvidia 7900 GS, but you first need to check this PC has a suitable PCI Express x16 expansion port, and a suitable power supply.
Be wary of buying a X1950 Pro or X1950XT. Though these often get rave reviews, they need a significantly higher spec power supply. For info on power requirements, try the eXtreme Power Supply Calculator.

I bought my Medion PC from Aldi back in November 2003 and have, on the whole, been very pleased with it. When I'd had it a week or two, I thought there may be a problem with the DVD drive. Called them and a couple of days later somebody came to replace it. Only criticism I have would be the graphics card, which has been replaced twice in three years (the fans don't seem to be very good).
LB1985, did you have to replace your Graphics card yourself or did Medion come & do it for you?0 -

Darn...why does that always happen! My 3 year warranty just ended a few months ago. This is the first problem I've had with the PC. I've been very happy with it.
It is a Medion Titanium MD 8386.
I have 2, the first one I bought was the MD8080 which I had no trouble with apart from the power on button broke so they sent me a replacement fascia and the spacebar on the keyboard stopped working and was replaced without problems. It's still running well after being handed-down.
I now have the 8822 which I bought in March 07. Apart from Vista...I have had no problems with it.This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!
