Aldi Medion 8820 Dual Core PC - 15th Feb

If its anything like the £549 deal at xmas it wont be v good.
They never listed the motherboard on that one either. It turned out to be an "exclusive" board made by MSI. The board was a BTX size (not ATX like 99.9% of all other PCs) and MSI didnt list it so no drivers to download if you ever need them for a reinstall.
No wonder they didnt brag about it.

If it comes in under £300 it'll be reasonable, but do compare with the likes of Mesh etc before handing over the cash as they generally compete with good deals and better components at present.
I have a Medion TFT. It died after 2 weeks. Medion support is expensive and poor. They only answer via the 0870 and will tell you to ring it if you try any other number. You will be answered quite quickly. Then have details taken at which point you will be put into another queue where the real waiting takes place.
After trying to blame the graphics card like a stuck record, (it wasnt - the missus' tft worked fine with the pc) they eventually agreed to replace it. 4 weeks later and several delivery promises, I received a refurb monitor. At least it didnt have any dead pixels so I reluctantly accepted the 2nd hand for the new price.
There was a time when Medion were good. That time has gone.0 -

HankMcSpank wrote:Re the Core Duo being a disappointment...I've just bought one off ebay. Scan's price is £250, I paid jjust £80 delivered last week (boxed brand new!)...it's a really *really* good processor, low power, high performance. So while Intel's core duo processors may have been a disappointment at their initial price point, for £80 you can't go wrong!
Yes, you are quite right - there was a large price drop for the original Core Duo when the Core 2 Duo came out, making them much more attractive. I meant they were a disappointment when you compare them to the Core 2 Duo, which is a fantastic chip

If there's been a price drop, then heaven knows what they were before, £257.08 here...

Alternatively, offer this guy £80 & he'll post you the same CPU (new one, sealed in a box)....

That's that cleared up then. I don't think I will bother at that price, it's not a bad spec just not really very special except for the 3 year warranty.Joe

only thing i wold point out thou that folks seem to be forgetting is that fact that this has the built in tv tuner for a guess or it would seem from the pics. if thats true and has vista premuim on it your getting a full media center pc which now as tv recording features i belive, aint used it on my vista as card aint compatible. but if thats the fact then your looking at about 150ish for pvr thingy aint ya.
so if you got a half decent tv say already with vga or what ever input could be worth it to go along and just use as a media player with the bonus of a pcif you like say thanks :j0 -
Don't get too excited about the "tv tuner card" - depending on where you look you can get a cheapish hybrid or DVB-only TV card from about 20 - 30 quid.Wins so far this year: It's been a quiet year so far
