  • Woke up in north Kent this morning, to find our green house had blown over.

Come on, own up, who was it that sent a stray gust of wind our way??????:rotfl:

;) Felines are my favourite ;)
  • This is absolute twaddle and scaremongering by the media.

    It is now officially Winter...

It's hardly 'twaddle' to those in Scotland and the north who have had property damaged.

Yes, the media are drama queens (we all knew that anyway), people on this thread are certainly not.

Even for Scotland yesterday was something - most people shrugged their shoulders went home and drew the curtains. Was funny watching "Bawbag" go viral but TBH most people got up this morning, righted their bins and got on with their day.

I hope everyone got off as lightly as we did (although I am grateful the tree in my garden came out on Monday because yesterday would have done for it for sure)

I think we got off ok because the wind hit the gable end of the terrace. We are high and get a lot of gales and I expected worse than this. But was interesting standing at kitchen window watching things flying past at supersonic speed :) Next door but one had those big blue glazed ceramic planters you get in Dobbies, the biggest size for things like palm trees lol - and they're in my garden and in my hedge ! (in bits) :(
  • all clear in ne england today. My dd's garden toys are all over though, but the bin stayed put!
had flickering lights and loss of phone and sky at times, but over all its fine.

No problems here at all, I suppose we must be pretty sheltered, I saw quite a lot of wee elderly women doing their shopping in the main street when it was supposedly the worst time! Also saw a double decker First Bus at gone 3pm, long after they were supposed to have gone off! Lots of flickering electrics and a tv aerial brought down, but can't see any other damage from here. What I would say though is, the winds were a lot more sustained than usual.

All in all the best things about it were the preparation which was fun, and " hurricane bawbag" which was hysterical (apart from the tedious pedants who kept pointing out it wasn't a hurricane. Severe Gale Bawbag doesn't quite have the same ring, does it?). And I'm STILL of the opinion that as far as closing schools went, it was better safe than sorry. Taking a kid out of school in Berkshire seems more than a little overprotective though!

Now - bring on the snow!:p

  • I'm just shocked that there were people out walking in the Cairngorms in that weather! I also saw a BBC pic that had a woman up a hill, maybe in Cumbria, nearly being blown over. Just why?!
