Fit to drive?

  • Old folk think they are better drivers due to experience etc. but they are not. They dither, are incapable of judging speeds correctly, they persevere with manuals when an auto would help and they have tunnel vision with almost zero spacial awareness.

Personally I'd force everyone to sit a test of some sort every 5 years or so with eyesight and reaction tests at least as often.

Why stop at old folk! This thread is starting to annoy me, there are plenty of folk who drive badly.

I think it's an interesting thread.
It's amazing the amount of bigotry some people seem to be capable of, and it's always how they are good drivers, and everyone else is bad.

Funny thing is they're all the ones who have have the accidents.

Had one hit my car a year or so ago, hit it, drove off, couldn't find anywhere to park, parked opposite me, someone saw him do this and put a note on my car.

Old driver's are a f**king menace.... And it's not because of their reduced driving skill, this you can almost excuse!! It's because they think being old will excuse them of all wrong doings!!!

AND guess what? with age comes arrogance, so they're older and they always know better than you

I've seen them parking in the middle of a road, parking over two spaces, parking half in/out of a space, parking diagonally, leaving the handbrake off, opening their door repeatedly into the next car (because the other car was in the wrong for parking correctly) and the best thing is, they get out of the car, look at their failed attempt and just walk off as if it's fine (because they know nobody will dare say anything).

Some are vindictive barstewards too, if you drive a "nice car" and you do or say something they don't like, you might come out of the supermarket to find your cars been keyed from front to rear. As my mum found out when one tried to dart into a space she was already reversing into.... New BMW Z4, £800 worth of scratch damage.

It costs £5 to take a Taxi across town, it costs upwards of £50 a week to keep a car sat on the drive (which only gets used once or twice a week). They don't need cars....

Yeah, you're right Stryder, they should all be put down at 60:T:T:T

Dear oh, you do come out with some rubbish, and deny it or not that's the most digusting ageist post I've read on here in yonks, you really should be ashamed.:o:o:o

I'm of to BetFred to get a few quid on all of them knowing better than you.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

So, your mum's not older then, or is she exempt from your hatred of older drivers?
At least you won't be starting a thread about these women in new BMW Z4's that take so long to park other drivers could have parked in the space while they where blocking the car park, still trying to get in.
(Pity you didn't tell her not to spend all that money she hasn't got, taking a big loan just to impress the neighbours on a new flash car is your pet hate isn't it? What the point of having a car you don't own etc, )

^^ The truth isn't discrimination, it's not sexist, it's not racist and it's not ageist...... It's the truth and when people don't like to hear the truth, they label it as something bad, in the hope of entirely invalidating it.... I pointed out the published fact (from the mouth of the former minister of transport) that the elderly are just as likely to be involved in an accident as a 17 yr old, I also stated that the elderly cover far less miles. Can you imagine if they did 15k+ miles a year? The roads would be utter carnage!!!!! Can you imagine what they'd do to a 17 yr old that drove the wrong way down a motorway or DC? he/she would never sit in the driving seat again! Yet I recall a few years ago there was a 78yr old woman who'd been doing just that for over 2 years and still had her license!

Again, you label this how you like, but it's still the truth!

America have recognised the dangers posed by elderly drivers, it's seen as a massive problem over there!! But for some reason in the UK we claim there's no problem at all. Statistically speaking, I find that very hard to believe.......

    So let me just get this right again, you think (word for word);

    Old driver's are a f**king menace.... ???????

Do you really think you can say that without being ageist?,
and remember how you like to quote motorsport analogies?. Well, your hero Stirling Moss, when should he have been put down/banished to a bus pass.

You are pathetic with your stereotyping, remember the word some?, ie, some older drivers/some young drivers.

There's an old Who song, my generation, it was written for you, but maybe it should have read "hope you die before you get old"

Poor drivers come in all shape/size/age groups, we live with and expect them, you are in the group I fear most.

But property.advert didn't specify old people. Their post (the one that you quoted) clearly stated that they thought it would be a good idea for everybody to require some form of test every 5 years or so.
Personally I'd force everyone to sit a test of some sort every 5 years or so with eyesight and reaction tests at least as often.

    So, he's retired from racing.
At 81, so that proves older drivers still have the skills required to drive safely.

But as you quote that to apply to driving to work, there is your problem.
You view every drive to work as a race, always competing with every other driver to get there first, and blaming every one else around you for not driving in the same poor style.
It's not a skill to imagine you're a wannabee Stirling Moss on every stretch of road you're on.
