I always park by ear, makes those tight spots a lot easier and a lot quicker to get in and out of. ;)

I hope you don't mean you back-up until you hear the bump.
It wasn't you that hit the Op was it ?

Not the purpose of the post, it was to ask if i can challenge his ability to drive and if the insurance company should be interested in this.
Very few people drive perfectly. The only standard that insurance companies need is whether the driver had a valid licence.

You can notify his insurance company of your concerns if you want but they will very likely ignore you.

As a holder of a HGV licence, I had to have a medical and eyesight test to get mine and have periodic medicals to retain the licence.

While it's more than most car drivers have it's hardly comprehensive is it?
Eyesight test, blood pressure check & a urine test for diabetes, the rest you fill in yourself via yes/no answers...

Not quite. Your medical records are fully taken into account.

The old duffer who could have killed us on the A1 last year was cleared as fit to drive despite having just had major heart surgery - I told the investigating officer in no uncertain terms if he's driving like that his licence should be permanently immediately revoked! Still, hopefully he lost his no claims, his car was a write off and it cost his insurance company 2.5k in compensation for me. Personally I believe all licences should be automatically revoked at 75 and if you wish to continue driving you should have to pass an extended test to prove fitness to drive and provide full medical history as unbelievably the heart condition this old duffer suffered with was 'non-declarable!'

You don't need to be an old duffer to have none declarable major heart surgery. Unless he had a heart attack, his heart fell out or a surgeon was still operating when he crashed, was it relevant to the accident or are you just throwing it in for effect?

Doesn't stop you driving though. So quite how they're taken into account doesn't seem to affect the dvla.
Unless as Paradigm says you tick the yes box.

Bearing in mind that any vehicle that is carrying Hammyman's ego will probably be a lorry that is tailgating the one in front of it ("HGV drivers are nowhere near as bad as car drivers for tailgating. They'll typically be 40 or 50ft apart at 56MPH following another vehicle") and can stop in a shorter distance than "pretty much every single car on the road".

I still find it unbelievable that an ex-professional driver considers it safe for a lorry to tailgate another vehicle 40 feet when this is far below the stopping distance for a lorry fitted with air brakes and thinks that a lorry can outbrake a modern car.

    well said

HAmmyman is right in his assertions......although he was allowed to make an assumption initially by the OP.....so the response is a tad unfair.

However, what Hammyman didn't hilite is the problem that lorry drivers [and bus drivers] particularly can find themselves involved in a collision that they were 'unaware' of...

As for Strider and others.....I sincerely hope that when you folk get to 60, you will promise to surrender your licences to the DVLA, and take taxis....

    What's that you say?

    No chance?
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
