  • just a thought- are the banks doing this through ghost firms, to cut their losses??
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)
  • I had a phonecall this evening from a company called UPI (UK) Ltd. They are saying that for a fee of £49.99 they will send out a pack with official court letters and they will guarantee that the bank settles your claim. Has anyone else heard of these companies and are they really legitimate?

All i heard is they take a huge percentage of the money if u do win and take ages. You might as well do it for yourself.
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T
  • Just finished a telephone call from a foreign call centre representing CMS Reclaims in West Glamorgan http://cmsreclaims.co.uk/2.html.

To register and get a 'passport' from them, they required our address, DOB, and most alarming the full number of our bank debit cards including the security code.

I tried to string them along to get more details from them etc, including a number for me to ring them on to set up this 'passport' but they were 'unable' to do this etc.

I will speak to CMS Reclaims after the weekend and report back the results.

This looks very dubious in the extreme and words like 'scam' loom large.

Please note that is is not a complaint or comment against CMS Reclaims since I have no evidence that they were involved.
I have just been contacted by CMS Reclaims. They did not explain that they were going to claim my bank charges for me - just that they wanted to pay me £350 of overpaid bank charges. I have never heard of these companies before and didn't understand what they were getting at. Reading this forum has enlightened me! They knew my name, address, phone number (which is x directory), bank account number and sort code. They wanted my bank card details (in order to pay me the money) but I refused to give them as it all sounded very odd to me. What I don't understand is, how do they get this information about me and how do they know that my bank has overcharged me by £350? I asked these questions but they wouldn't answer. Also, looking back on this account I have never had or used an overdraft facility and would be hard pushed to find £350 worth of charges in the 20 years I've had the account. Does anyone know where they get their information from?
  • I've just had a company call me and offer to reclaim my bank charges (plus 8 percent interest) for a penny short of 50 squid, which they claim will be refunded when I get my charges repaid ie it won't cost me a penny in the long run because they charge the bank. All I'd have to do is to 'claim 4 gain' (there's a hint there as to who rang me!)

I'm tempted to pay them to save me the hassle. My wife thinks it's a scam.
Is it too good to be true?

Interested to hear from anyone who has had a similar call - any advice welcome. Thank you.
  • Hello everyone!
Has anyone used "Advantage Claims", or know anything about them? They are a trading name of "i-sm@art consumer services ltd".
I was told about them by a friend (they are currently handling his claim). They only want 10% of any claim (others i have seen want about 20-30%). Don't know why but it's got my alarm bells wringing! Weird web address too https://www.bankcharges.biz , maybe i'm just paranoid! As it's for my mothers claim, i don't want to give her dodgy advice!

Has anyone had any dealings with them?

    Regards
    Craig
  • They never updatre you on progress and when you call them all you get is excuses thay seem to be always waiting for post etc. Its funny but the banks manage to send me copies of ofeers of payment the i smart says they have no knowledge of

I have sent you a private message my friend get in touch with me cos I want to get a group together to complain to the ombudsman about hei lousy attitude to their customers
  • Hi Just to advise, the ombudsman does not regulate or deal with the activities of claims companies like these...You will need to go through the company's own internal complaints procedure first, and following that take a complaint to the Ministry of Justice, who DOES regulate claims companies...good luck!

I claimed my credit card charges back through them.
They got (I think) most of my charges back.
I say I think is that I've not managed to get any figures from them.
I've been asking since July for a breakdown of my reclaims but so far the most I've got is that they have been reclaimed and their charges paid.
I only know one reclaim figure ( I had 3 reclaims) as the cc company to me separately.
After constant emails over 3 months I put in an offical complaint to them. I got a reply stating that two of the reclaims are fully settled, nothing about the 3rd and the PPI reclaims on the cards have been moved to a different solicitor. I didn't even now they where with a solicitor anyway as I only tried to reclaim the charges.
I'm going to try again to get a satisfactory answer, if I don't I think I'll go to someone with more "authority".
Watch out if you are using them, if you have multiple claims they are very good at getting their charges paid and giving you the balance but not letting you know what's it for

  • Not sure if this is the right thread.
I got a company called Advantage Claims to manage my credit card charges claim I had an offer of £814 in charges and £841.37 in interest totalling £1655.37 said claims management company have sent me the banks claim form to send back to teh claims management company with an invoice for their fees as follows

Proffesioanl fee on bank charges 10% £81.40
    VAT 17.5% £14.25
Interest paid by bank 100% £841.37
    Total feee £937.02

This is unfair tht means that they are making more than me. What would happen if I sent the claim form straight to the bank?
