Yes, a 10 or 15% discount may sound good, but it depends on off what price. It seems as well at the end of your first year of insurance that the premium always goes up so a discount may not be as competitive as shopping around. Therefore are you paying for an account that gives benefits that you won't use?
  • The 15% for home insurance I know is continuous in future years as long as the URCA remains open

Halifax home insurance is competitive for its unlimited cover - see other posts

I think the best benefit will be the travel insurance, the RAC cover ect
  • I agree the mobile phone insurance, the RAC and the travel ins will be a hit and also the card looks fantastic!!

I have option online to upgrade my account to this one now, but can find no details of the account on their website. Really need to see fine details of insurance offered to see if its worth taking.

just a comment - the '£100 to switch offer' is for new accounts only, therefore it may be more advantageous to open a new account as opposed to upgrading. i confirmed this when I called them last week.

One thing I'm still unclear of - does the RAC cover 'homestart' ? and does the cusc mobile phone policy cover Pocket PCs?

Also confirmed this account goes live on monday 19th feb

The account is launched on Monday 19th Feb - they will be adding a calculator to the website and all details of the cover

The RAC is breakdown cover. You can upgrade yourself to homestart.

The £100 to switch offer is only for customers switching from another bank.

You will not get anything to open another account, unless you had another bank acc elsewhere that you could switch direct debits from and funds new acc withover £1000 a month. You would be credit scored, so would be better to redesignate (click of a button, overnight update) unless you could switch from another bank
  • my halifax account has been dormant for years, so i would be switching DDs from another bank. regarding the rest, we'll see what goes on the website.
  • It will be live Monday

To warn anyone - existing Halifax account holders that choose to redesignate have to see an adviser in a branch who is insurance FSA authorised. It takes about 10 mins and you sign a form. You can not do this over the internet, with the call centre (yet), or at counter - as they are not authorised
