Great discussions here today...... Hypno you are not the only one inspired by Souk. Loving the sound of the patio furniture and especially the G&T in style.

  • Afternoon one and all I thought I would pop on with my "opinions" on the whole friendship thing.

When I left my OH I realised that I had spent my whole life with him and that I had no friends. This wasn't his fault at all it was my doing. We were childhood sweethearts and our friends drifted off to uni and various other things. I was very happy and I loved being a wife and his partner. When we had my DD my life was complete and I was consumed with working and being a mum.

When my marriage broke down I realised how few friends I had, those I did have were family. I had let all my friends become strangers as I was content with my family unit. My seperation made me realise how important friends are and over the past couple of years I have built up my social circle again.

Being a single parent it has been hard but with the help of such things as facebook and texting etc keeping in touch with people couldn't be simpler so there really is no excuse not to keep in touch with your friends.

I have also done the online dating thing as with a small child I don't do much socialising. I have met some lovely people on there one who I dated for over a year and he remains one of my close friends. I also met a hell of a lot of freaks too lol. I think online dating is good when you are in a good place, not if you are in any way vulnerable or naive as there are a lot of "bad" ones on there.

Being single again has changed me so much and I know have a really good set of friends, some I have met online, some old ones I have rekindled and some lovely new ones from my new job.

So after all that waffle I think I am trying to say that its very important to have friends and more importantly to make time for them :o

Well, finally found you again ... and now need a cushion to curl up on after 16 pages

Belated Happy New Diary Hypno :) Can't believe you've been in your new nest a whole year

Reading through here and on other diaries, it seems that many are experiencing similar lifepoints. Whilst many people use the New Year Resolution thing to attempt change, for me it's always been either around Birthdays or Christmas that reflection seems to come to me ... think I'm just odd :o

You've come so far during the last 5 years or so, not just with the amazing debt total you've cleared - but also with the difficult personal challenges that you've been through too .... You have come through the other side all the stronger for them. :A

You continue to be an inspiration to many Hypno. Wishing you an amazing 2012

Interesting thoughts on the OH/friends issue. A good friend of mine met her husband through a fan chat room, so I guess there's two types of internet dating - the accidental (such as their story or through MSE) and direct (through dating sites).

I online dated, thanks to a friend signing me up, before I met OH and I'm so glad I did because it made me realise that the most important thing for me was for someone to be sweet, funny and a friend. But it's also a great ego boost to have guys wanting to spend time with you, and since I felt very single-fat-ugly before - it really helped me realise I was worth someone amazing. Oh and I also learnt that some people are so boring it's unreal!

I met my DH through a chat room too, not a dating site, just a standard Internet chat room. After my 1st marriage broke up I was very lonely, I did have friends but we all had young children and aside from play groups I didn't get the chance to socialise. I didn't start chatting to meet someone, just for a bit of adult conversation I met several people over the years that have stayed firm friends.

Greyhound Angel, hellooooo!! And to everyone else as well, of course!

So, yesterday was a nice easy day. Counselling went well, brilliantly in fact and I haven't made another appointment as we think we have pretty much cracked it. I will not hesitate to go back though if I feel things starting to close in on me again, It has been the best investment I could have made in myself I think this year.

Then off for a spot of shopping, food and pub quiz with a friend. Had a fab time all round. Was all within budget too so even better.

Just surfaced today, and another lazy one is upon me :D
