I said I was a snob in my first post. I thought it best to plant my flag from the outset.
Actually I'm a misanthrope rather than simply a snob.
Bah humbug to the ruddy lot of you“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

Until this week, when I looked out the kitchen window on a clear night (rare enough to be appreciated), I could see quite a few constellations that I recognise, and quite a few stars that I couldn't name, but enjoy seeing.
I'm really hoping the 'street lights off' thing will get rolled out further for that very reason.
I had the joy of going to a pub in a lovely village a few miles away recently who now turn their street lights off. The atmosphere is totally different when night is as it should be....dark. It was wonderful and the stars were absolutely popping.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Yeah, so what if it contributes to road accidents, at least you had the right ambience with your pint.0 -

I rarely think about Harrods at all, fortunately....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Ive never even been to Slough apart from to change trains there. You seem to know it well, just like these hot dog stands you apparently live near.
Perhaps he's just a John Betjeman fan?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

It's quite a view when the clouds allow it to be seen.
This week, when I look out the kitchen window, my optic nerve gets fried. As I've already mentioned, curtains don't quite block it out, nor do the blinds at the stair window.
It's a very, very insiduous light. And it is beaming away from the neighbour's house towards mine. That's where 'perspective' and 'point of view' take on a very literal meaning, as well as just describing a stance in a 'debate'.
coolcait that sounds wonderful, as a reluctant city dweller I'm always in awe of a clear night sky when I'm down in Devon, it's magical:)
That said, I'd still happily live with Christmas lights for a few weeks, do your neighbours lights stop you sleeping?0 -

Thats just the way of it. If it was the neighbour posting, the comments would have been more personal about the OP.
We'd have seen comments like, 'your neighbour is selfish and lacks taste.'
And comments aimed at the OP would be more indirect.
None of that means the OPs decision to have Christmas lights has not been criticised and labelled as tacky.
One poster said people driving past are actually laughing at her.0
