You joke about Santas socks, but last year we did have a holly type wreath above the black beam entwined with fairy lights. I popped out for only a couple of minutes, came back in and the whole lot was on fire !
The Villager is a crazy output for the size of the room I admit, but we love it. We kept the fire in continuously for 3 weeks during last years cold snap and only used the central heating for background as it kept the whole house warm pretty much.
Do I win a prize for 14KW or do any Moneysavers have a higher rated monster ?0 -

What do you burn on it, plutonium?0 -
hey guys. I have just moved house and dont have a chimney so am getting quotes for a twin wall multi fuel burner.so far have been quoted about £4,000 for a standard 5kw multi fuel to supply and fit. Is it me or does that seem a tad expensive?
I am used to a big open fire in my last house so brought all my seasoned logs with me but looks like my fire place will have to wait.
did everyone else have to pay such a lot of money to get installed?0 -

Sadly, no. I have the largest Hunter Herald - nominally 14kw, too, so you'll have to settle for a tie.
It sits in a very large inglenook and takes about an hour and a half to get the room warm, running on wood. It's slightly quicker (and hotter) using solid fuel.
The house is so old (1500s) and poorly insulated that we run it more or less flat-out. That said, it does the job very well, once the inglenook itself has warmed up.0 -
I paid around £3500 for my stove (8 Kw), which included a new lintel, opening up of the fireplace to accomodate it (inset stove) chimney liner, new hearth and plastering the whole chimney breast with fire cement/plaster as being an inset it was a necessity.
The main bulk of the cost was the stove and liner, but to be honest considering how great my stove is, I was more than happy to pay what I did. I think I would have re-thought at £4k though. How many quotes have you had?0 -
I have had three quotes so far if I use a hetas fitters.I was really shocked at the price. I am used to beautiful big open fires so a small multi fuel seemed a good idea to me. That is 4k as a small fire not even linked to run the wet system. if I went for a 6kw I needed air bricks or something fitted.
they are not cheap are they. You can buy them on ebay brand new for £500 but to charge £3500 for fitting I think is to dear0 -
Have you had a quote to have a chimney built? my neighbours did that (many years before I moved in) and I have no idea of cost, but I can imagine that you'd think £4k was a bargain!
I agree the costs do seem quite a bit and I'm sure someone else on here would have a better idea as to why.0 -

I am trying to be good and use natural forms of heating and you cant beat the smell of a fire but I think I will have to wait to save up some more pennies as moving house has cleaned out my bank balancehey ho it will soon be christmas I suppose :rotfl:

Last year, we paid about £3k for opening up the nook we have (see pic on this thread). Invloved removing the old gas fire, all brickwork for the previous coal fire then tonnes of rubble thrown into the nook down the chimney I presumme! Sandblasting and repointing all the stonework, new damp course & concrete floor, slate tiles for the hearth & supply & fitting the Charnwood 8kw stove.0
