The skirting runs behind mine too but it's buried under breeze blocks :p

    The tiling conceals everything ;)

See thats why I was thinking yours is like mine - the tiles behind and the hearth

our hearth and indeed the complete set up can actually be lifted and taken away and set up in any house, if we move hubbys taking it all and just repairing the whole in the roof

There is no risk of the skirting catching fire unless of course the stove collapses and spills lighted coals everywhere and if that happened well the skirting would be the lest of out worries lol
  • .....can't riddle my grate any more......

Neither can I, must be me age,,, :o

Looks as if you could fit a comfy chair in that inglenook too! Glass of wine and your dog at your feet :)

LOL!! There is a void to the left where the logs sit - its about 2 feet wide & 4 feet high & 2 feet deep. I guess its where granny once sat in her rocking chair! I now have 2 log baskets to the side to fill it up. We were very shocked to see the size when it was knocked through!!

Personally i think it looks god awful but i respect that you think it looks otherwise :)

From a practical standpoint it must put a lot of stress on the stove pipe and whatever is holding it up (since most stoves are in the 100KG+ category).

Edit: looks like it isn't really a "stove" as i think of them so the above might be a mute point.

I would admit it probably gives a better all around heat balance to a room, even if the output is quite low.

It looks to me like Mr Guert was inspried by Wallace and Gromit.

Shame he forgot the bit about stoves are supposed to be used for heating!

I can just imagine Buck Rogers lighting a fire in one of those.
