Hi, everyone is different but this is my account of the IB50,
medical due on 22/02/07 after my GP intervened, I didn't have to go to it, but I got a letter from the DWP dated on 02/03/07 saying that I had passed the criteria and that I wouldn't be expected to go for anymore until, 22/02/2012.
so that's me done for the next 5 year's or so I guess, hope this is usefull to anyone,

We sent off DH`s IB50 on the 6th Nov and he received word on Monday -12th March - no change.
We`ve filled in a few of these over the years - never had to wait so long though!
His next review is in 2012.0 -
seem's alot don't need to bother now until 2012, do they do this every 5 year's, or am I wrong.

I'm getting really worried now. I've got to fill in the forms to see if I can claim IB as my SSP has run out and after reading all of this I'm not sure I want to even bother. I'm already worrying and I've not even sent off the first set of forms yet yet alone anything else
I found the form confusing, I can't phone up and talk to anyone about it as I have this fear of the phone and can't use it. I don't want to see anyone as I know they'll think I'm faking it and try and make me go back to work. I'd sooner kill myself than go back yet but I can't do all this seeing people
I have post natal depression and I'm on medication and see a CPN every week or so but I still feel awful. I know I'll fail this like every else I do I stuff up
Sorry to post moaning. Well done to everyone else on getting themselves through the medical0 -
I sent in my IB50 Dec. had medical Feb and got result after about a week. Mine is up for review in 2 years time. Everyone must be different, wish mine was 5 years, the stress adds to the stress!!! The whole process made me ill.
BTW my appointment was almost hours late, more stress! :eek:0 -
I am worried as i still haven't heard the outcome of my medical and it will be three weeks this tuesday coming up since i had it, so not sure what to think my income support is due to go into my bank next week, what i was wondering if they find you fit for work do they just stop your money all togther?0

evilwitch, do claim your IB. CAB will help you to fill it in.
What's the worst that can happen? They say no. They can't make you go back to work. Please don't worry. It's not a crime to ask for it.
Don't be scared, just go for it, it is an income for you and also you will get credited with National Insurance Contributions which count towards your Stae Pension.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Believe me I was too. Try not to worry, cause it won't help (famous last words eh?!)
Basically I was asked lots of questions, I did try to answer best I can. I can't remember all of them, well don't really remember much.. but the first few were how did I get there, where did I park, was I alone...
Then I guess the rest were "my illness" related. Medication, and how it affects me. I know some questions sounded really silly, like do you have side effects to the medication... Doh! I don't blinking know! All I know is I don't feel great! I don't even think many of the questions related to my illness'. Then I had a few mins physical medical at the end. Just bending and stretching & peak flow. That was about it. It took about 20 mins I think, after a 3 hour wait... and my appointment was at 1010am. They had the cheek to tell you to arrive 10 mins before!! :rotfl:
I am physical & mental :A (illness/disabilities)
I left thinking I had made a right mess of it. I just can't discuss personal things with anyone I have just met. Anyway, the result was ok after thinking I would need to appeal.
Just to add how daft it all is: there was a guy in his late 30's up for a medical when I was there. He was pretty out of it but was in good spirits and making "most" of us laugh. My son took a hypo while we were there so we had to go out to a shop to get something to eat. While I was outside waiting for my son to come back from the shop, that guy came out, for a ciggie. He was talking to me and he said he had only been sober 5 days since he was 17. I am sure his doc and many other professionals know his problems, so why waste time & money getting him in for a medical? Seemed totally daft to me!
Just thought I would add that, to let you others know, it doesn't matter how ill you are, you could still be called in for a medical. So try not to worry about it, or think they are not believing you.
Good luck
