Well I ended up going on my own after a bout of SBS this morning. I sat in the waiting room before being called by a nurse to another waiting area. From there the doctor called me. She seemed very nice but sounded surprised when she asked if I was on my own. I told her the reason and what I felt like before I left the house.

Anyway, she looked at my medication and asked what each one was for and how often I take them and when. She also asked how often I see my doctor and my CPN. I showed her my appointment letter to see the psychiatrist.

She asked some rather strange questions such as, "Do you have a mobile?" and, "Can you look up a number in your address book?" She also asked if I was safety conscious. I asked what she meant and the doctor talked about unplugging things. I replied, "Well I do unplug the TV and PC before I go to bed." This is just to save on energy so I don't know what she meant by that.

She asked me to talk her through an average day. I said I couldn't because I don't have average days. Instead I described the differences between my high and low days. She asked about self-harm and wanted to know about my two previous suicide attempts.

The hardest questions was, "What is preventing you from going back to work?" I said my mood swings scare me and others and I can't be in a room with strangers because I become paranoid and panicky. She asked if I go out socially and I said no. She asked if I used to and I said yes.

If I don't hear back within 6 weeks I am to contact IB. Can't wait!

I received the result of my medical today. It says:

"You have met the threshold of incapacity under the PCA because you have scored at least 10 points if your illness or disability only affects your mental health."

The letter also says my case is due to come up for a normal review on 09/07/2007. I telephoned to ask what this means and I was told the procedure starts again. Letter to my doctor, IB50 and another medical.
  • Congratulations - glad it's over for you for a few months.

By the time your next review comes up, you will have seen your psychiatrist, so that will be even more in your favour.

As i have said before the north west seem to take forever ,at the moment ,to sort things out!!I read a posting on another forum from a man who said he returned his ib50 and had a medical within a month,I can't remember which area he was in.

On the other hand ,someone else in the north west had a medical and received his letter saying everything was o.k 2 days later!!Hope you get a good result soon.
:) There are two sides to every story.

  • I sent my IB50 questionnaire in to dwp 3 weeks ago and i received a phone call from someone in medical services on sunday afternoon asking if i could come into their medical centre on 27/02/07. I was told i would receive a letter about it confirming the times and dates ect and the location of their offices/centre. This is now a week later and no letter has arrived bearing in mind i have sat, mon and tuesdays post. I was wondering if this is normal practice now. I have been on IS for nealy 10 years and i have been to these medicals twice before and it has always been arranged by letters. Last year i didn't need to go to a medical as they informed me that they had all the information they needed and i satisified their criteria but this year its different. I am on IS for medical health reasons and this year things are worse than last so i am unsure what this means, I am getting in a right state and worrying like mad . The last time i attended a medical was in 2000 and family members are telling me i am probably having to attend as it has been seven years since the last medical.

Just out of curiosity, why are you not claiming IB? Are you getting DLA too?
