  • It is nerve wracking, I agree.

My advice is to just answer the questions to show your condition as it usually is, not on a good day.

In other words, if you can climb stairs one day, but then not again for a week, then you can't climb stairs.

Or if you can only go out of the house to do your shopping once a month and then need the rest of the month to recover, then you can't go out of the house to do your shopping.

You can take someone with you if you wish.

    Good luck!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Good Luck. Hope all goes well. Take someone with you and when you come out it may be worth writing down as much of what happened as possible and questions asked etc just in case you have to refer to it

I think you are talking about an appeal tribunal rather than a medical, though they should not treat people badly and in most cases dont and give a fair hearing.

i have been through one before so take it from me its not that bad, remember from the time you are called in to you entering the room the test is underway, the doctor will write notes about how you are coping with everything, it really depends on what your condition is, so if its mobility related then he or she will be sure to write down how you walked in to the room, did you need assistance, etc, to your speech overall look, responsiveness and it goes on, im not trying to scare you but this what they are like in there, its their job, if you feel you are getting worse while you are in there just tell them! after all they are only there to tell the DWP that the persons illness is disallowing them from work...

I've had a couple of these and the doctors were very good. They're not allowed to make you do anything which would cause you pain or discomfort. Just make sure you do as already said and answer all their questions as how you feel on your worst day. But don't worry, they have a job to do but they're not monsters...

Well I suffer from depression and have been referred to a consultant psychiatrist for a proper diagnosis to see if I am bi-polar in any way. However, this appointment is not til mid-March.

My moods swing from very high and excitable when I don't sleep, clean everything, talk quickly about anything and everything to very low when I need to be alone and canot bear to be with anyone. When I feel like this I don't eat, cook or wash and lie in bed and become very emotional about things. However, in between I would be what is considered "normal"

I don't often like going to the shopping centre or into town on my own as I suffer from panic attacks in crowded areas and often need someone else with me.

I am worried because if I am on one of my highs the doctor may think I am just very happy!

Well I am totally nervous now with multiple toilet trips this evening. I can't get anyone to go with me as my flatmate can't get time off work and my two friends who would go have just moved to Dublin. I hate travelling into town on my own but the medical takes place around the corner from the bus stop so it should be OK.

I'm just terriffied of not answering the questions properly or sleeping in tomorrow morning!

try and drag someone, anyone with you, i too have depression (bi-polar) and know how it feels, its important to show your symptoms from the moment you are with the doctor, you just have to tell him/her how it affects you, the ways it has stopped you from doing day to day things, if it gets too much just tell the person to stop the interview, just relax for the night, i was worried the first time but its not really a 'brutal' or 'big' thing, its like going to your GP except your being asked about things in detail and even somethings a GP wouldnt ask!

let us know how you get on!
