Well I ended up going to my medical on Tuesday, on Sunday morning i received another call asking for me to come in for a medical and i stated that i was awaiting a letter to confirm a date arranged a week ago and it seems whoever phoned me never arranged a appointment. I was a bit wary as i thought maybe someone was at it but the guy made sure that the original appointment was kept as i had arranged my sister and partner to accompany me, so i went to the medical without any letters and i was a bit wary of what would happen. There was a bit of confusion when i got to the desk as i had no letters and i hadn't brought my id, they says i should have brought a passport, and birth certificate but i wasn't told to bring these but after a few minutes discussion they agreed for me to have the medical. The medical itself, well i am not sure what to make of it, it was different to the other two times i had been, it was more of how i spend my day and how my illnesses effect my day to day living and a small part was just really telling them what illnesses i have got. Also this time when i was talking the doctor was inputting all this information into a computer and the medical took ages as we kept stopping and starting as the doctor had to type everything in. Also when i was in the medical my partner and sister were talking to people in the waiting area and a sunday seems to be the day when they are telephoning everyone to arrange medicals.

Could you not be able to claim IB now? When you claim IS your NI contributions get credited. Would this not allow you to claim IB?

AFAIK, credited contributions only qualify you for State Pension, not anything else.

  • hjb, good luck with your medical. Do you know yet when it is?

This confirms what i keep saying about how long these things take in parts of the north west.If i were you i would mention this to the doctor and say how the stress has not helped your condition, this may result in your decision being made quicker, for the good i mean obviously!!,this has been known.,saves a wait of another several weeks to hear....GOOD LUCK

Well I had my medical yesterday and I think it went okay (Ill know when the letter comes through better though!). The doctor was quite nice and understanding about the illness and how I am affected by it. Glad its over with now, just hope the letter comes through to say I passed! How long after do you normally find out?

It can vary from area to area but usually between a few days and a few weeks.

I was wondering about that too as in how long it takes for the dwp to inform you of the outcome. I had my medical two weeks ago and i haven't heard a thing so not sure what to think. The last time i went was 7 years ago and i can't really remember how long i waited.
