Norton Internet Security has been good for me. Seems to have stopped quite a lot of attacks. Also I use secureclean regularly to clean off sensitive data.0

my avg was no longer valid, so i uninstalled it and replaced it with avast, which worked ok for a couple of days, then i found i could not access many sites, especially ones i had to log on to. e.g. ebay, msn, banking , mail order etc.
upon using system restore to go prior to avast , they were then accessible , so i tried to then install E7, i was having problems installing this , so i system restored again .
so now i have avast , but again no access to many sites.
i did have aol, which i also uninstalled as i was no longer using it.
any ideas on how to resolve this issue,
luckily , i can at least access this site.
i am still waiting patiently to see if anyone can help me!!!!!!!!
btw i have windows xpNice to save.0 -

I use 1) Firewall inbuilt in router
2) Sygate firewall is on computer in case of router failure but I turn it off when logged on.
3) Microsoft firewall turned off
4) Avast antivirus
5) Spywareblaster
6)Prevx Intrusion prevention
7) Ewido - not full version which has expired & you have to pay for.
Everything seems fine at the moment. (I recently changed set up as I was getting a few viruses and trojans.)
Even though your router has a firewall built-in you should still enable your sygate firewall. (It does lots of things your NATS (firewall) router can't. The other pieces of software you are running are OK though the only one I would recommend is EWIDO (it's worth buying) Used in combination with SPYBOT search and destroy and AVG (free) anti-virus (by far and away the best free anti-virus). You will be well protected.
However, it is important to turn on at least sysgate at all times (it won't slow your surfing).
Finally, Firefox is less of a security risk than IE. (You'll be better protected against nasty things downloading themselves.)0 -

AVG do a free version of their excellent anti-virus. I wouldn't bother with avast it's not up to the job. With regards to "aol" check that any components which your pc came installed with relating to aol are properly deleted.
[xml is a dynamic scripting language used to between your browser and a hosting data server, you don't need horrible aol plugins for your browsing to be fun].0 -
hiya, notice yu r a newbie, thanks and good luck.
i agree with u about avast, have installed and deinstalled it many times, it was giving me problems with accessing web pages, now have avast which detected virus avas did not.
as regards aol i just inserted a disk and reinstalled it without signing on.
