The trouble is that since I downloaded AVG my computer is on a total go-slow (snails go faster).

    Hi

I am not an expert at these things but if your PC is running slow all the time, try uninstalling AVG (or if you have XP use "system Restore" in Control panel to go back to the time before installing AVG. The possibilities are as follows.... if Internet is slower but the pc is generally OK then possibly you have more than one anti virus or firewall program running. Go through your installed programs list in Control Panel and see what is installed. If on the other hand the whole thing has slowed to a snails pace, then something is probably hogging your memory (RAM) this could either be a virus or a bit of spyware or adware (the latter should be picked off by spybot) or maybe your Temporary Internet files need clearing Try running a virus check if you haven't uninstalled it.

The main point to remember is to try to think back to when the PC was ok and examine what has been installed since then and eliminate the problems
    one at a time.

If you need further help, please leave a message on this board, outlining your operating system / RAM size / Disk capacity / Software you use

What model do you use? I have been looking at a Linksys WAG-54g wireless router, but I have heard that they can overheat.
I use a WRT-54G... it's has wireless, plus 4 ports on it for wired machines (two of my PCs sit right next to the router, so they don't really need wireless).

I previously had the BEFSR41 (pretty much the same thing but without wireless). Never had any problems with either of them. They certainly don't overheat - both were on 24 hours a day, and didn't even feel warm when I picked them up. But then, as I am on cable, neither of the routers I have include a modem - I have a separate cable modem. The WAG-54G is an ADSL router, so it will have a modem, maybe this has overheating issues? I do remember reading somewhere about people having overheating problems with the WAG-54G.

    Hope this helps.

The WAG-54G gets warm but not hot - I don't leave mine on 24 hours and have plenty of free space around it. I initially had it stacked with a Linksys switch on a shelf where it did get noticably warmer, but not to panic levels.

    please help:-
my avg was no longer valid, so i uninstalled it and replaced it with avast, which worked ok for a couple of days, then i found i could not access many sites, especially ones i had to log on to. e.g. ebay, msn, banking , mail order etc.
upon using system restore to go prior to avast , they were then accessible , so i tried to then install E7, i was having problems installing this , so i system restored again .
so now i have avast , but again no access to many sites.
i did have aol, which i also uninstalled as i was no longer using it.

any ideas on how to resolve this issue,
luckily , i can at least access this site.
    Nice to save.
