I have zonealarm which is fine and AVG8 which took a very long time to scan my
computer, about 8 hours. However I rarely do scans anyway, so I might stick with it for a while.

You have to weight up whether vurus scanning is more troblesome than a virus itself!!

I can't see how scanning to make sure your PC is 'clean' or for early discovery of a virus can be worse than not knowing one is there till it's done enough damage to cause you to lose important files

AVG8 however does seem to be more trouble than it's worth, judging by what I've read about it. Eight hours is rather OTT, so I can almost see your point about it being more trouble than a virus. Have a look on c|net's download.com and you'll see several that are better than AGV8. Avast! is very good imo.

    :)
  • At work I have no idea what our computer system uses but never had any problems...
At home we have a PC and a Mac laptop. The PC has a Zone Alarm, AVG and Adaware. The Mac has nothing extra. Never had any problems with any of them.

A great security option if you have a spare pc handy for a hardware firewall is IpCop. turns the pc into a linux router. works a charm.

Just started using the trial version of Eset Smart Security and I have to say I am really impressed with it. It seems to have speeded up my PC considerably.

Used to have Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite but got a bit annoyed with various firewall alerts and problems when scanning. Tried Kaspersky but that made my computer so slow.

Was avg + zone alarm. still is, but they've both decided to simultaeneously implode (well, refuse automatic updates) so gawd knows what's going on (i've tried a few things already) but erm... might just be changing in a bit...
  • with Vista Home I am using ZoneAlarm free version and AVG v8 free version. I don't use Internet Exporer and I block all flash/video and adverts on Firefox v3.0.1.
I finally ripped Norton 2008 Internet Security out in May this year and now my laptop is better protected and faster. Norton couldn't handle a virus which entered through MSM Messenger. Needless to say Messenger has gone now as well.
I tried Comodo firewall but it was too intrusive, kept popping up to o.k. program access.
