What Security do you use?

But surely the exploit is centred around poisoning the DNS cache stored in the DNS server, forcing it to return malicious websites instead of the site it is supposed to. And I don't know why you would want to be using a desktop machine as a DNS server
It was a case of needing to correct the way in which client operating systems made the requests through the DNS servers to ensure that incorrect records weren't cached.
Apple have yet to do this correctly, every other operating system has.0 -
What? Apple has security flaws?!? No way!
When hackers want to spread a virus they naturally go for the system that can reek the most havoc. Up to now that has been Windows/Internet Explorer. With the increasing popularity of Firefox they are now being targeted. As other OS's become popular they will also get targeted.

Indeed. But the problem is that many apple users think they are immune to these sorts of things. Windows users have known it for years and come to accept it. Have anti-virus, a firewall, and run a malware scan once a week and you'll be fine. Linux users have the same problem, they just don't realise that they are becoming a target. Yes, both their OSes are more secure than windows, but there will always be flaws in security somewhere. A hole is found, the hole is patched. Rince and repeat.
Well, you may have to wait a while for apple to release the patch.0 -
Ive used most free programs (and some pay) in my years
I personally HATE Norton and dislike Mcafee
All my stuffs free
AVG Anti Virus
Comodo Firewall (With built in defense)
Adaware ~ free scanner
Spybot ~ stops popups in Firefox and IE
But most importantly I use Firox with the NOSCRIPT plugin. This makes it near impossible for viruses to enter your computer. Ones which IE7 would quite happily allow in!
Any questions just ask away:idea:0 -

Have to say my only personal experience of viruses getting through browsers has only been on IE6 and Firefox (without addins). Not had one yet through IE7 (or Opera) and I've been using it since first release."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

To give you a fine example. My grandad bought a brand new dell 2 weeks ago (ish). I put firefox on but he went ahead and used IE7 anyways Got a virus on within 3 days! And its def from IE7 cos I went and checked.
Put it this way ~ theres certain websites that will fire viruses at you left right and center. NOSCRIPT will stop them dead , IE7 will not!:idea:0 -

No different than having a good antivirus to begin with though. Have to wonder what security your granddad had installed. I've yet to see anything at ALL let through any of my browsers with my AV running. Whether I'm running scripts or not. Most of the virus infections I've seen didn't come through scripts anyway."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Right. He has exactly what I have. Avg and comodo. As you know anti virus programs scan for viruses and trojans of which it found pretty quickly (I cant remember what I was doing at the time but it jumped up to tell me IE7 was infected) and it got rid of it instantly. Theres was no danger but NOSCRIPT would have blocked it instantly (as in no virus to actualy get rid of)
If you like I can later look for some of these NASTY websites and you can go on them and see how good IE7 really is? Id hazard a guess that whatever anti virus software YOU use will light up like a christmas tree
Is it not better to block them from even TRYING to get in rather than having to continually scan for them?
On the other hand im just giving my personal advice on a subject I do know quite a lot about (ill not go into details why ~ haha). Who chooses to use it and who doesnt is entirely upto them (shrugs)
Just tryin to help:idea:0 -
