I use McAfee! I'm not sure what other anti-virus things do - but it has a big green ticks next to sites that are safe, which I think is a great idea.A new abacus

As if McAfee wasn't poor enough.
Those ticks can give a false sense of security, they can be months out of date.
Also I expect Fakebook and Ebay both have ticks, just have a look on here at posts with infections originating from Fakebook, and don't forget the many posts resulting from those infected Ebay ads that were around a couple of months back.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Has anyone else had messages from XP Security 2012 and an auto online scan saying i had 20 infections!

I recommend Kaspersky Anti Virus. If you are a barclays online customer. You can get this for free to install up to 3 computers..
Otherwise other free tools I would install would be:
Rapport - extra security for banking
MalwareBytes - for ad-aware bits
Antivir or AVG - free Antivirus.
Use Firefox and ensure ADblocking add is install. this will remove lots of popups especially the questionable ones....
This should ensure your PC stays trouble free, responsive and safe... (he says!)lol0 -
I have had various free 12 months of Mcafee on various computers in my home for the last few years. e.g I had free 12 months as an online HSBC bank user. Then I moved to Sky Broadband and got a free 12 month Mcafee subscription on up to 3 computers from Sky. This free one overlapped the previous free one by several months. However, when the original subscription was due for renewal, I received emails suggesting I pay to renew to avoid getting viruses. I obviously didn't renew as I already had a new free 12 months Mcafee from Sky. The day after I receieved a sort of final email reminder from Mcafee to renew (which I ignored), I got a bad attack of virus. I seem to remember this exact same thing happening on one of the other computers in my house a couple of months ago when I ignored a similar renewal reminder because I already had a free 12 month Mcafee installed and running. This does seem a strange coincidence, also why didn't Mcafee stop the virus. Has anyone else experienced this?0

I thought it would be interesting to know what security people use (and how successful or not!). I'm assuming that giving this info doesn't put security at risk - perhaps someone could say if it does!
I use 1) Firewall inbuilt in router
2) Sygate firewall is on computer in case of router failure but I turn it off when logged on.
3) Microsoft firewall turned off
4) Avast antivirus
5) Spywareblaster
6)Prevx Intrusion prevention
7) Ewido - not full version which has expired & you have to pay for.
Everything seems fine at the moment. (I recently changed set up as I was getting a few viruses and trojans.)
I use (used to) Avast Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware anti virus or AVG. These are very good products.
But now i have a MAC which are virus-free woopee:T0
