  • If you're a customer at the bank, then they should as long as it's all bagged up correctly. Failing that, use a CoinStar machine, although it takes a small commission. Only thing with that is some stores, in particular, only offer coupons (although I'm sure they're supposed to offer cash as well).

  • Yes, we regularly pay in a load of change into our account also, so long as it's bagged up they're happy to accept it :)

Took my own lunch into work today, so put the change in my pocket in the pot, which I'd have otherwise spent on sarnies etc - £2.13 gone in today!

Just looking for some advice! I have a coffee jar almost filled with coins (coppers and silver) but my bank won't change them! Any ideas where I could get them changed? Ideally I'd like to put them in a savings account (just so they are not lying around the house) but I'm not sure if the building society will accept them either. Thanks :)

Daisy: the only thing I can think of now is to go to the bank ask for money bags & then pay it into your current account & then take it out again in notes - hope this helps i'm sure others will be along soon with some more ideas

Sue : ah all is clear now re the comment earlier ( ada & cissi)

Thank you Sue-uu, mumwithamission, MrsShazbat, Bellassz1 and seriouslyfrugal. I'll give it a go. I've got some bags in the house but I'll need to get more tomorrow. I seem to remember from a while back that a friend was refused this service even though she banked there and the coins were bagged. I think that's a bit off really but I'll try them and see.

    Thanks again :)

Well done on successfully budgeting, moomi, but how come your pot isn't sealed??????! :p

It's only because I need the change swapped over for bus fats, school bits. & bobs etc but I just take out an exact amount, say £5 and replace it wit a £5 note. Ooh I hope that's ok or have I broke the rules?
