I found a £1 coin in the rubber seal of my washing machine door yesterday, so 100 pennies saved there.
Got my mystery shopping cash through, so that's another 1300p stashed away.
And I'm really chuffed with this one - my fixed rate mortgage was coming to an end so i went to the bank yesterday. I got extra lending on my mortgage 4 years ago to buy my car (I know, stupid) and had been paying a fixed amount as a repayment on that borrowing. I was also paying a separate amount on my original mortgage, which is an endowment mortgage so I was only paying the interest.
My additional lending had been paid off, so that payment had started going to my original mortgage without me even realising it. (Ah, the days when I didn't have a clue what was happening with my cash!) My original mortgage amount has been getting repaid as interest only, so I converted part of that to repayment and left part as interest only to be covered by the endowment.
And the best part about it is; my new single repayment will be 4000 pennies per month less than what I was previously paying, despite the fact that my new interest rate is 2% more than the old one!
So my mortgage will start going down a lot quicker, and I'll have some extra pennies for my car savings pot. Once I've got my new (to me) car, then I'm going for the mortgage.
This penny saving is addictive!0 -
I had a good week this week. Found 100 pennies in the middle of the road (in the dark!) and sold some old clothes to a rag merchant so got 340 pennies for those.
Haven't found any road kill for weeks and never find receipts to womble. I thing there must be 100's of secret MSE'rs in Birmingham!
Still at least the penny prison is still secure .Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
Oh I really should get back here more often - this thread is so much fun!
The people in my town are clearly very careful with their small change, as the only rescuing I've managed lately has been a solitary 2p coin outside T*sco! I thought I had rounded up 509 pennies from my PayPal account, until the boyfriend pointed out that it was most likely to be his, as I hadn't sold anything on eB*y for a number of years and he had sold some things about 6 months ago. Annoyingly he is right... I should have just kept quiet!0 -
Mr Merle came in the other day and handed me 20 pennies (in the form of one single silver piece); he'd found it outside the downstairs entrance to our flat. Glad to have someone else's eyes on the lookout for me :rotfl:
Star, how annoying of your BF! Definitely keep such finds to yourself in futurex

Used 6p off a litre voucher at the filling station, catured 232 pennies
.
Someone put one of those annoying 'buy our junk' books through the door, skimmed through it and had to laugh, not only do they sell separate television screen cleaner and comp screen cleaner, but they now have satnav screen cleaner too! And people buy them . At their prices I reckon I capture about 1000 pennies a week not buying their products!0 -
Good day today for penny hunting!
I found 5p in the car when hoovering it, and changed my car insurance and got 297 pennies refunded0 -
