Also yet another lot of abandoned clubcard points but I won't add them here until I've actually put them on my card.

Em, I'm still trying to work out 40444 pennies but I'm delighted you got it!

I think I'll have to start wombling but do you actually go looking for them (ratching in the bins etc) or just happen upon them by chance??

474 pennies captured from an unsuspecting member of the public on ebay. They obviously don't know that these pennies need to be locked up but I am quite happy to keep them in my paypal prison :rotfl:

I have to go through Tesco car park nearly every day as it's on the way to nearly everything, so I keep my eyes open and pretend to be litter conscious! Same goes when I'm leaving the store: I pick up dropped receipts and lottery forms then shove anything I know not to be worth anything in the bin. I even keep a beady eye on self-service machines so I can go to one where someone's left a receipt (though the staff are often quicker than me, LOL, and self-service receipts are usually only worth 1p or 2p). The best time for sheer quantity of abandoned receipts is just after all the secondary school kids go through. :D However, while they are big spenders as a flock, or whatever the collective noun is, they're unlikely to spend much individually.

Still, as we know, these crafty pennies get out singly as well as en masse.

Sometimes people leave receipts in trolleys so I just choose that trolley...

So far I haven't gone through the bins! :D

The other source is my dear family who refuse to be trained in penny-capturing ways, which all works out for the good for me. :) I have to admit it can get obsessive so I try to limit myself. Sad that I head for the longer receipts as they are most likely to have most points!

  • That's just reminded me. I saw a man check a receipt in a trolley as I took mine back - I really must make more of a conscious effort to do this. DOH gave me the receipt for the perfume he bought me at xmas so that I could put the points onto my advantage card. I got 200 points from it so not to be sniffed at. Also returned the coat I bought from the CS for DD1 as it was too big/didn't like it and got 799 pennies back, I also resisted the chance of letting go of 150 of the little devils on a book I fancied. I've got a big stack of them in my bedroom and when I see one I want, I visualise putting another book onto the stack so I just leave it. Also, My sis asked if I want to read a book she got from me at xmas which she said was brilliant. I got it from the pound shop and she loved it. Just goes to show that you don't have to spend a fortune on books, I will definitely be scouting the books out in there more often for the xmas pressie drawer.

have a great day everyone. x

5 pennies worth of small change imprisoned in the change jar today - not been doing much lately as no luck with roadkill and been on NSDs till all the bills have gone out at the beginning of the month and i can see what's left -not enough:(

I have a clubcard, boots advantage card and nectar card so I've been getting increasingly curious about "wombling" and using other people's receipts to get points. How does this work - is it the actual receipt or the till spits? Do they let you take someone else's receipt who hasn't used their card/doesn't have one and add the points on? Do you need a lack of embarrassment to do this or do the sales staff take it all in their stride?

27p in the bottom of the handbag again.

I don't understand how it is getting there though, I am being so careful with my pennies!

I think there must be 'anti-pickpockets' around, actually putting change in my bag!

I wish there was such a thing as anti-pickpockets - although did you hear about that man over Christmas putting envelopes in peoples trolleys at tesco that had £50 in them?

Came by a whole 100 pennies today:j I say came by as I didn't actually find them.... I was coming out of the gym when a lady walking passed me dropped her money. It went in all directions over the path. As she gathered it up I called to her to say that some had gone onto the grass. She didn't hear and just carried on with the majority of it. I stood chatting to my friend for another couple of minutes, trying to concentrate but getting distracted by the thought of a penny or two! (I think my friend could tell I wanted to go and look but as it was dark grass it was a tad embarassing!)

We went our separate ways and as my car was further into the car park that hers, by the time I got to where we'd left off, my friend had gone. The opportunity was mine so I got out of the car to take a look. I did feel a bit of a wally, all the time thinking it'd be 5 pennies at most. I couldn't believe it when I saw 100 staring at me:)

At that moment I was very tempted to go back into the gym to try to find the owner but not only could I not remember what she looked like, I felt too embarassed considering the time that had passed, to go back in looking for her to say that I had found her money. It's bitter sweet and I do feel a little bit guilty but the money will definitely not be wasted, nor will it be escaping:rotfl:
Everything is ok in the end. If it's not ok, then it's not the end:)

It's difficult when you see people who clearly aren't up to the job of penny prisoner...but you shouldn't feel guilty, afterall, you tried to get her attention (I'm assuming you raised your voice above the level which only dogs can hear??). ;)
