I'd be very, very wary of taking at face-value everything a nine year-old says happens at home. I know when I was about the same age I lied through my teeth about something which at the start seemed pretty trivial but blew up into something altogether different . Of course, I knew that the consequences of telling the truth would be much worse than being honest about what happened and why.
