    Sat: NSD
    Sun: £12.18

Total grocery spend for the week: £40.74

We have UNDERSPENT by £29.26. Either this is a fluke or there is something in this meal planning lark!

I was very proud of myself as we had half of a bag of spuds left which were going a bit manky. Normally, I would leave them until they were inedible, and then throw them away, but this time I boiled them all up and froze two portions of mash. Go me!

    Plan for next week:

    Monday: left over cottage pie
    Tuesday: Christmas!
Weds: lunch at parents, need to take a salad.
Thurs: DH at work, may need evening meal.
Fri: DH at work, need evening meal
Sat: DH at work, need evening meal
Sun: DH at work, need evening meal

So I need to sort out 4 evening meals.
Chilli- got mince, sauce mix and rice. Will need beans, onion
Fish, chips and mushy peas- got all already
Fish pie and veg- need to get fish pie mix and parsley sauce, got mash already
Roast beef: We have sirloin joint in the freezer, need yorkshire mix and veg

    Shopping list:

Bread, milk, kidney beans, onion, Fish pie mix, parsley sauce, yorkshire pud mix, veg, salad stuff.

I can't imagine that lot will come to much, so here's hoping for another low spend week!

  • PS We are thinking of heading to a supermarket late tomorrow to see if there is any bargain reduced stuff. Has anyone else done this on Crimbo eve? Is it worth doing?

We visited the supermarket on Christmas eve and I think we missed the boat bargains-wise. I posted a thread on Old Style and it looks like the early bird caught the worm!

I managed to get some reduced fish, fishcakes and curries for £9.00. My best bargain was a pack of 6 Muller lights for 10p!

We went again today and managed to get £83 worth of meat for £20! It was a lot of turkey, so we'll have to stagger it out so that we don't get sick of it.
We popped into Boots to have a look at their sale, and we managed to pick up a Soap and Glory hand set, a Piri piri set and a Nandos cooking set half price. We had spent £20.50, but had a £5 off voucher, and then I took back a 'first Christmas' babygro that was a present for Mini-MSE, but unfortunately was the wrong size. The shopping therefore came to a grand total of £5.50! woo hoo!

Grocery spend is £65.84 so far, but we now have a full freezer! I'll see how we do for the rest of the week, but may use the £29 from last week as this was all bonus bargain meat.

Done adpoints, (not much on there) and will go and see if anything we've bought qualifies for Consumer Pulse.

    Just transferred £9.35 from Quidco.

I didn't leave the house all day as my friend came to visit in the afternoon. So no spending on groceries! DH came back from Boots with loads of Soap and Glory goodies, some will do for good pressies later in the year, and I shall use some myself :D

After visiting the 'which vacuum cleaner shall I buy' thread, we have reserved a Miele Cat and Dog cleaner from Currys, £149 from £299. DH is going to try Apollo 2000 first to see if they'll match the price.

I'm off for a walk tomorrow with friends while DH is at work, and I've taken the ingredients for fish pie out of the freezer already for tea.

It was a bit strange earlier as I had a very friendly comment in bad English by a newbie, which has since been removed, so I'm guessing they were spamming. Very friendly spammer though!

NSD today, fish pie for tea and bread from the freezer for DH's lunch tomorrow.

Had a long walk this morning, which will hopefully offset the biscuits I have just eaten :o

The points on consumer pulse seem to be racking up quickly, but adpoints is a bit of a struggle as hardly any new ads.

The phone has a bid on it and 5 watchers, so keeping everything crossed! Looking forward to submitting my first payment for MFW2013 next week :T

Total grocery spend so far is £70.59. There was some booze and bargain meat for the freezer in there, so not too bad.

We have partially stuck to the meal plan, we caved and had takeaway one of the nights and we had egg, chips, beans and sausage today instead of fish and chips, so small spend there.

Meal plans for tomorrow onwards: (all are flexible)

Sunday lunch- cottage pie and veg.
Monday- curry at curry house. Take out roast beef for Tuesday.
Tuesday- Roast beef: We have sirloin joint in the freezer, need yorkshire mix and veg
Weds- Nigella's 'Quick Calabrian Lasagne'. Need 1 onion, 500g mince (in freezer), 60ml red wine, 1 litre passata, 2 x 125g balls mozzarella, 500g dried lasagne, 350g cooked ham, grated parmesan. + garlic bread.
Thurs: Fish, Chips and mushy peas - got all already
    Friday: Chilli- got all already
Saturday: Jamie's 'Thai Chicken Laska'- Need 4 chicken thighs, Chinese five-spice, sesame seeds, 2 fresh red chillis, 1 butternut squash, spring onions, peanut butter, kaffir lime leaves??, fresh coriander, rice noodles, 600g asparagus, 400g light coconut milk, 3 limes.
Sunday: Roast turkey from the freezer. Need veg.

Yikes, that thai dish sounds like it's going to be expensive! How come, no matter how much cooking I do, and how many herbs and spices I buy, a recipe I fancy always needs one I haven't got?

I fancy a trip to Aldi as well to get some cheap veg to make soup with. It was a really easy week lunch-wise when I did that a couple of weeks ago.

Adpoints has been like trying to get blood out of a stone this week! I'm on 231 points, and have only go tomorrow to get the remaining 19.

Just ordered all of my ingredients to be delivered on Monday and it came to £31. So I should only need to buy a few bits of bread, milk and veg to top up throughout the week. Fingers crossed!

  • Hi there I have just read trough the last few pages of your thread. Wow you have so many nsd I am in awe. It is something I really need to work on. X
    £370/£300 April challenge :T:T
  • I cheat a bit regarding NSD- I count an NSD as a day where I don't buy any food. We might buy other things, for example yesterday we bought a vacuum cleaner!! We used to shop every day for the evening meal, spending £10 a time at least, and I felt our grocery spend was out of control for only two of us.

    Tues: NSD
    Weds: £26.08
    Thurs: NSD
    Fri: NSD
    Sat: £4.75
    Sun: £7.37

Grand total for the week: £77.96

I'll deduct the £7.96 from my underspend from last week.
We had a bolognese pasta bake from the freezer for lunch today instead of the left over cottage pie. I walked up to Aldi with Mini-MSE and bought some carrots and sweet potatoes for soup. I made carrot, ginger and lentil soup from the grocery challenge thread in old style. Very nice!

The Tesco shop is coming tomorrow and is £40 including delivery charge.

    I'm loving the darts!

7 watchers on the phone, still at the starting price though, I'm hoping there will be a last minute flurry of activity. It's still going to be £70 of pure profit though, which will certainly boost the overpayments.

I'm off to check my bank in the hope that some money has appeared from somewhere.
It seems a long time since I did the Halifax shuffle
