Longships, I once visited a quite wealthy friend who always decorated her house with greenery. When she walked the dogs she'd cut boughs etc that she saw, and then on a Sunday before Christmas the family would gather with mulled wine and a roll of Florestry Wire and "deck the hall". I copied that when my littlies were little (minus the mulled wine for them!).

Leylandii is particularly good and easily come by, my neighbours welcomed me pruning theirs! Though be careful that some greenery itches. I used to feed fairy lights through as well. And the house smelled really Christmassy!

Will be back with an update shortly - I've had internet problems for since yesterday

No woodburner here - but I have swapped the tree cutting for them taking the wood so all is good and frugal IYSWIM.

The light in my garden is fabulous now - time to start planning a garden again

  • So... if I wanted to knit these instead of crochet them (because I can't learn by next week, and I want to make some for my Christmas Twig) how would you convert the pattern to knitting?

You try knitting a rectangle - sewing it into a tube the gathering the top and bottom. A quick tie around the neck with a piece of wool - and a snowman shape is formed.

Would be pretty quick I should think - the fun would be in the decoration.

Afternoon ladies (and any gents that might be lurking)

I got up ridiculously late after having a gorgeous night's sleep (making up for the nightmare on Sunday night). I scoffed 4 guylian chocs after scoffing most of the box yesterday (greedy I know and I was trying to be good as well:o) I have washed and dried my hair, have flattened storage boxes and put them in the front bedroom out of the way, I have even picked up clothes that had been dumped on the blanket box and put them in the wardrobe.

I have been emailing today too and I have made a start on applications and already I have lost the will to live - why do they have to be so tedious? Received a knock back from one hotel - not surprised as it was not meant to be, I feel sure it is the thought that I have been/am self employed that is putting people off...hey ho.

I need to go to the post office to visit business bank account to put £20 in it seeing as the rotters like to force me over my overdraft and then charge me:mad:

Loving the idea of a treats basket - I know what I can put in mine:

I will add a mini bottle of Jacobs Creek Merlot that has been lurking in my pantry since last Crimble
A pink heart bath fizzer that came in a pack from my handmade soap win
I will put some chocolate in there and I quite fancy a DVD too - probably Charley Boorman's Extreme Frontiers that I am going to treat myself too with my Tatco Clubcard vouchers.

I can have some fun with a treats box as I have so many little bits n bobs that I keep meaning to use but never get around to it so I can use them to treat myself.:D

Am already making plans to put the tree up this year (a fake one) which will be decorated with my lovely decorations some of which are vintage ones which I picked up from freegle.
  • Hello All... just about surviving, but i have three and a quarter hours left of the working day, and then at least another 4 hours waiting for hubby to complete his jobs and meetings at Church before we can go home. Luckily, I have got an invitation to join a knitting circle for an evening to see if I like it! :) I am sure I will... as long as i can keep my eyes open!

Haven't resorted to coffee yet, but I think I might have to have a hot chocolate for a sugar rush! :D Have spent another delightful lunchtime sitting at my desk knitting away. To the bemusement of my work colleagues...! Now listening to Radio 3 on line, and going to attack my to do list again. Have a very dull 2 hour demo of a computer system this afternoon!! But just waiting for 4pm so I can leave the office and go and find a warm corner of a pub to sit and knit until hubby is done for the evening! :D

    Take care one and all!

Today's mini challenge - find a box or basket and a whisk around the house and stash it full of "treats for you". This is going to be your emergency stash for that point in the holidays where you need some time to treat yourself.

    In mine I have:

    A bar of chocolate soap
A mini bottle of bubble bath
    A hot oil treatment
A Xmas Crafty magazine (thanks Elidee)
    A relaxation CD
    A smelly candle
    A tester of lovely perfume
    Three Fererro chocolates
    A mini bottle of cava

Now the important part - stash your pile of treasure somewhere where you will find it before February but away from any other "helping hands". This is just for you.

Off to make pancakes for breakfast

What a wonderful idea!! That's one challenge I can definitely do :)

Hurrumph! I'm back on-line at last.

This morning I went over to the Orphanage to deliver the money. (Popeye has agreed that our Christmas £250 can be used, and whatever flows back from you lovely Matrix peeps is a bonus :D Already I have received £70!)

I'd spoken to them a couple of times yesterday afternoon and I think they'd talked about your generosity before I arrived because I have had so many hugs from the staff :D:D I told them all about Teapot's godson, a sad bereavement which they identify with, and how that moved members of the matrix to donate money to replace what was stolen. They're STILL sorting football kits out for Friday :rotfl: and they wanted me to tell you that they haven't the words to say thank-you for all you have done for the 220 children there.

Each child will get new clothes and a great party on Friday thanks to you. :T:T :A :T:T
I'll not only be there with my camera, but they've asked me to present the certificates that various staff and children have won ::blushing:
