What's wrong with introducing food and clothing vouchers etc so benefits can't be spent on 50 inch tellys? Scrap the money. Give it out in coupons.

    Tip : google.co.uk

Its amazing, you can put words into it, and phrases and look things up, such as the benefit vouchers etc, and see the past attempts, the failure, the scrappage, and the research/problems as to why its unworkable, and crazy idea.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

For example, I'm currently pondering purchases of some rather expensive bits of electronics.

It so happens that this is test-gear and other equipment that may enable me to do some part time work, rather than a nice TV.

However, I have saved this money largely from my food and heating budgets.
Something that I would not have the flexibility to do on a 'food stamp' program.

    sounds interesting.

I have some bits of electrical stuff, that I bought during a better period, but can no longer use at present, due to the depression, but they are there in the hope that one day, I might get some of my old self back, and be able to use them.

100% correct! Why should people on Jobseekers allowance get what is effectively a pay rise?

Many people who are actually working wont receive a rise this year due to the financial state of the country yet these people sat on their backside all day watching Jeremy Kyle are due a 5% increase!

There's no wonder we are in this mess!
Why would anyone in their right mind sit down with a nice cuppa to that Benefits Basher Jeremy Kyle. (looks at wish list plans to get 'chavs the demonisation of the working class).
Haven't you ANY idea how those on benefits are being persecuted and harassed.
I am jolly pleased for a change. But I am sure Osborne has done it in order to ferment hatred towards this vulnerable needy class.
I think you need to read a few Benefits claimants blogs like
Benefits Scrounging Scrum to get the other side, then you might change your mind. (otherwise this is just a boring tedius MSE response for a deluded lot of right wingers who have no economic reeasons for doing so but who haven't woken up yet)

  • Think of us as PEOPLE i know this is a hard concept especially if you are not on Benefits. You will be delighted to know our Etonian punishers have such evil schemes in mind. Funny how Benefits claiming is thought of as worthy of PUNISHMENT.
Crazy if you are on benefits. !!!! them and do what you like provided you learn how to budget and get MSE be yourselves. Don't let the little !!!!!! cause you more problems and stop you from getting well because you are paranoid about spending your money.
yeah mental illness caused by benefits bashing = daily hate readers lets persecute away and see anti depressants soar!

And what would you do with close to £550 I get every week. Give me food stamps?

One thing for certain is that it wouldn't be long before I go from a size 12 to a size 20 plus and then you would be complaining that I was using the NHS far too much due to being obese!!

No but I did have an Audi A5 before I sold it to get a Vauxhall Insignia as a Motability car! LOL

We need a system where people get benefits to spend on essential items only - food, clothing and shelter. A certain percentage can maybe be paid as cash for the person to do with as they wish. The rest as credit vouchers or "gift card" type plastic to spend in any shops restricting the type of things that can be bought.

Benefits should not be rising higher than the cap on public sector workers wages - this sends out the complete wrong message.

People in the public sector, especially not those at the top end, already earn on average 16 percent MORE than someone in the private sector would doing the same type of work.
Low paid public sector workers at the 10th percentile (in other words who earn less than 90% of their colleagues) are now paid 16% more than their private equivalents.

    source

And three years ago (so take into account the salaries would be HIGHER now due to increases over the last three years)
At 31 March 2009, median gross annual earnings for all full time civil service employees were £22,100.

Even taking 3 year old salary average, the increase would be 221 pounds a year (for the 1 percent rise) compared to the 180 quid a year or so JSA increase.

So the average public sector pay is going up MORE than for those on JSA.

Of course, many are on far more than that, so take for example ( i will take the low end of the salary to keep it simple and fair)

John Fingleton - Chief Executive Office of Fair Trading: £275,000 - £279,999 would get a 1 percent increase of approx 52.88p a week....

Thats an increase, not far of the same as what someone on jobseekers gets in TOTAL a week...

That would be your own stupidity then, wouldn't it? I could easily spend £300 a week on food, but I have self-control. What about half coupons, half gym membership? Some claimants, Jeremy Kyle style, could be doing with a few rounds on the treadmill.

Is it me, or do benefit bashers seem more knowledgable and interested in jeremy kyle than claimaints?

Its always bashers who go on about JK, who talk about its contents and stuff, they must be addicted to it, and watch it a lot...
