Bought cupcakes this morning. I have been reading about some mishaps with cooking the cake - anyone with tips re baking the cupcakes? I haven't opened the pack yet - would I be able to omit the brandy or is it already mixed? My cakes usually are a disaster - I am told it is because of the fan oven and that I need to adjust the temp. Any suggestions before I make them after Christmas? Thanks in advance.

You'll be fine cooking the cupcakes - i've made two lots and i cant boil an egg!! Re the brandy i only used half of it - if you use all of it it'll blow your head off. I also made 14 cakes per batch and not 12 as the packet suggests

  • Yay my lovely work friend went to Tesco before work and picked me up a cupcake bag for £1 as I made some for work the other day and they all loved them but I couldn't find them when they went down to £1. Managed to get the cake at £2 in the week and can't wait to make it after xmas when I've eaten the one my Mum has already made.

I also made 14 cupcakes out of the last bag I did. I added half the brandy but thought that was too strong so this time will try 1/4.

Happy baking everyone and Merry xmas xxx

I think I must be mad. My first ever attempt at making a Christmas cake and I made mine with a 2 year old and a 4 year old helping. It's in the oven so fingers crossed. :):)

I bought some at Allerton Road on Wednesday, but there were only a few left.
They still had lots of boxes of the Cake though. Have stocked up on the cake for the new year.
