Just back from tesco ELY the cakes are £3 and there are loads

Did you actually take one to the till and chck the price, it may well have scanned at £2, even though the SEL said £3.

Tesco Express in Smithfields, London has four left at £2 each - this store usually has nothing like this, so quite surprised to find them there - I have bought one more.

Am trying to work out what bits of this cake are triggering the sell-by date. Do you think it is the nuts? Or the marzipan?

I think it could be the fruit as it's presoaked? Maybe they will go mouldy. That's the only bit that I can see that would go out of date.
  • Hi All,
Managed to get 3 Xmas cake kits at £2 each today, the same ones that were going through at £10 last night   .............lol Just made the Cup Cakes with my daughter, they smell fab! I paid £2.50 for that kit last week, does anyone know if Whitstable have anyleft at £1?

    Dx

  • Just bought 2 cake kits at Texco Didsbury in Manchester. They had loads left and advertised at £2. Never seen the cupcake ones there though.

I guess if it is the presoaked fruit that could go off. Then open them up soak them in a jar with more brandy. Then they will keep as long as you want. When you need them drain some of the brandy into a glass of coke with ice! hey presto! christmas pudding brandy and coke!!

1 hour of work to go yippeee!!

I bought another two Christmas cake mixes at £2. The ingredients are well worth that and then some. I can use flour, sugar and spices anytime, the mixed fruit is gorgeous and my kids have been making marzipan sweets for gifts for various members of the family. And eating it straight! That brings me to ten kits so far...four at £5, four at £3 and these last two. Am I a MBCake addict????

My guess is it's the marzipan or nuts that will go off too.

Hi - merry xmas everyone- just a quick note on these cake mix kits - don'y know if it helps anyone.

I went into Tescos in B**rnem88th last night ( Bra***some). I bought the cup cake mix kit. It was priced at £1 on the shelf but went through at £2 on the till. Nice SA at Customer services happily refunded me £2 DTD plus the freebie cake kit! There were a fair few left too. Only so many cakes my waistline will allow so I only bought the one!

    Merry Xmas!

Think its the marzipan, my sister thinks it might go rancid. Doubt it's the fruit, would have thought the brandy would have preserved it.
Alice came to a fork in the road. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

But it's just damp, not actually still soaking in it. That's why I thought it could go mouldy.
  • I ordered 2 of these for delivery but they were OOS :(

However it did give me a laugh that my substitution was 12 Tesco's own chocolate sponge cake mixes ... apparently because this matched the weight!! :rotfl:
