YES but give it a good 48 hours to totally dry out before putting another layer on.
Most wedding cakes are marzipanned twice and iced twice, or they used to be back in the day.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T

Has anybody soaked their fruit with more alcohol? I was thinking of soaking mine overnight with some cognac!
Bought small bottle of Cognac last year for xmas cause had whole family for dinner but nobody drank it so need to find a use for it!
The fruit is already seriously soaked, you could however feed the cognav to the cake for 2 weeks after it is cooked. This will make a very moist boozy cake.
Wait for the cake to cool fully, then pour some into a cup and brush over with a pastry brush, wrap up, put back in the tin, 2 days later take cake out of tin, turn it upside down and brush the underside with cognac, put back into the tin upside down, do this a few times to allow the congac to soak right through the cake.
You can also !!!!! the cake with a skewer or cocktail stick 6 - 8 times and just pour it in, but again you'll need to do this several times.
If you just soak the fruit them put it in the oven you get the taste of booze but all the alchohol evaporates.
So if you feed the cake after, you get the booze in it too.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T

Oh noooooooo!!
Got everything ready....switched on oven and BANG....fused the electrics! To cut a long story short...it seems that me main oven is kaput! Having to cook it in the small top oven which is still working. Seems very cramped in there tho...I'm sure it's gonna be all burned or something....... 2 1/2 hrs til I can have a squiz.
*cries*
*pours large gin*

Managed to pick up a couple of the cupcakepacks for £2.50, I hate fruit or spiced cake but I do like to smell them baking.Dum Spiro Spero0

In true money-saving style I am taking a gamble on them being reduced even more come tuesday (the offer ends monday) because they won't want the stock hanging around.... and our store has loads so here is hoping!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Normally I make my cake in October and feed it weekly. As mine is only in the oven now I reckon I'm going to feed it every few days. I definitely think feeding it improves the flavour and makes it lovely and moist! If my words are missing letters then please excuse me....my keyboard is a tad dodgy!!0
