WOOHOO! I finally tracked down the cake mixes. They were a bit like buses, OOS all week and today they were piled shoulder high on an end of aisle display. Cupcakes and Cake mixes....

I'm happy to have got them, but feel slightly cheated that I've spent all week hunting them down! :rotfl:

    Thank you OP!

i used brown paper on the bottom all the way through, and some on the top, I ignore the bit about making a circle and putting a whole in it.

Help! :o The destructions say to use 'baking parchment' but I only have bog standard greaseproof paper which is what I have used in the past. Do I really need to rush out and get the proper stuff or will this do? Also, I seem to remember something about tying a band of brown paper round the outside of the tin with string to prevent burning......any thoughts anyone??

Plenty of both Christmas Cake and Cupcake kits in the Seacroft Tesco. :j

My stores dont sell the cupcake mixes, would be great if they did as I love making cupcakes.

Picked up 2 more this morning for use after christmas.

Greaseproof paper will be fine. I also use a piece of greaseproof or baking parchment folded in half and tied around the outside.

Just did the icing on my cake fail (rescued to a much smaller cake) from yesterday, with my 4 year old daughter.

    It looks just like princesswoos..................:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
  • I always put folded newspaper round the outside of mine rather than wasting my greeseproof, I do double layered buttered greaseproof on the inside. x

I used old brown envelopes and keep them from year to year to save time cutting and measuring.

All 3 cakes in my pic were 1 cake mix, I made 1 x 8 inch cake, then decided to cut out 3 smaller circle cakes using a cookie cutter and knife. But if you make individual cakes from the start in individual tins you will get 4, i Just didnt think about it beforehand.

I had to buy an extra pack of marzipan at £1.64 from tesco and a bit more icing sugar, as there was only enough to marzipan & ice 1 & a half of the small cakes.

My 3 cakes in the picture are 4inch on a 6 inch cake board.

The boxes were 67p each (designed for 6 inch cake boards), bows 40p each and cellophane £1.50 for 5 metres.

Although ebay has some, they have allsorts of boxes on there

Thank you so much princesswoo, I really appreciate that xx ;)
You're so very special, I wish I was special

  • Went to a larger Tescos a bit further away and had to do a double take when walking past the Mary Berry Christmas Cake bags. On the same stand but on a lower shelf were MB Cupcake Mixes! At first glance they look just like the cake bags, but then you notice the picture of the cupcakes. So easily overlooked I thought. But good value at £2.50 so got 2. Should keep me and DD busy during Christmas hols :D.

This would be realy helpful, can someone confirm which make this is please as well, Thank you

Here is a pic. I have put them next to the Christmas cake mix, so you can see the similarity. I found mine on the same stand that the christmas cakes had been on.

Very easy to miss as there is not a great deal of difference at first glance but the bag is smaller. HTH.
