I am looking to bake the cake this weekend but don't have anything to keep it in once it's been baked; what do others keep it in (if you don't have one of those proper airtight plastic containers for cakes)?
I also bought cupcakes but will leave them for Xmas eve. :D

yes they are all sealed up individually, you can open the big bag and have a look inside, you wont spoil any of the ingredients.

I marzipanned all of my cakes (badly) it wasnt very pretty looking but I knew I was going to hide it with the royal icing, which was a lot easier than you think. In fact I think Im addicted, im running out of people to give them too, lol.

I might buy a couple and keep then till february and make VALENTINES cakes, with them.

sorry, might seem silly question but do you decorate it straight away, i.e. put marzipan and icing after it's baked rather then day or two before Xmas?

2 layers of brown paper then a couple of tight layers of tin foil, then if you want you can add a tight wrap of clingfilm, once its iced (all over) you can keep it in a bag, out on the side etc, as the marzipan and icing seal in the freshness.

You need to wait 24 hours for the cake to fully cool, then marzipan it and wait 24 hours for the marzipan to dry out, then you can Ice it, leave it out in open air so that the icing can dry out.

However for my small cakes I baked one morning, marzipanned that night, iced the following morning, and they are fine.

Thank you so much, that is really helpful. And I might even try icing them myself after that encouragement. Am going to go again tomorrow and see if I can blag more pacs at £4... Tempted by cupcakes but tend to make muffins myself. Mind you, if you can get the SA to take the £1 off coupons...

thank you. does anyone know if it can fit in one of those metal cookie tins, would it be alright to keep it in there?

I dont think a cookie tin will be deep enough, but it will fit inside a quality street, heroes, roses tin. Or even a jacobs cracker tub, or you know those family choice tubs, them too.

princesswoo, your cakes look amazing! Seriously considering going and getting some of these to make for presents before the offer finishes.

What size cake does the full mixture make? is each cake in your pic 1 packet of mix? And your boxes, princesswoo, what size are they and where are they from? :o
You're so very special, I wish I was special

Well I made the cupcakes and took 5 into work, oh my gosh they ate them within 2 mins! And they said they were amazing! I dont personally eat/like them but they went down very well and only took 30 mins to cook in the oven. I ate the leftover brandy butter icing though tee hee xx

PS I have got 2 more packs, and can see me buying about 5 more packs as it is sooo cheap and easy!!

Is there any chance of posting a picture of these cupcake mixes please, i managed to pick up a couple of christmas cake mixes today but couldn't see the cupcake mix

All 3 cakes in my pic were 1 cake mix, I made 1 x 8 inch cake, then decided to cut out 3 smaller circle cakes using a cookie cutter and knife. But if you make individual cakes from the start in individual tins you will get 4, i Just didnt think about it beforehand.

I had to buy an extra pack of marzipan at £1.64 from tesco and a bit more icing sugar, as there was only enough to marzipan & ice 1 & a half of the small cakes.

My 3 cakes in the picture are 4inch on a 6 inch cake board.

The boxes were 67p each (designed for 6 inch cake boards), bows 40p each and cellophane £1.50 for 5 metres.

Although ebay has some, they have allsorts of boxes on there
