Has anyone tried going through the checkout with one of these and one of the price drop coupons giving you £1 off wys £2.50 on cakes and puddings? Am contemplating returning my two and buying them back again... What do you think?
Mmmm yes I did today when I bought the cupcakes mix.
I asked the SA to try it and she replied that "No it only works on cakes the same as the picture on the coupon" ie Mince Pies!!!!!!
She then proceeded to tell me that what I had bought wasn't a cake it was to make a cake, she was deadly serious, as if I genuinly didn't know.
But Me, well I was seriously peed off. I asked her if she really thought that I couldn't tell the difference between cakes and cake mix.
she had the good sense not to answer me.
On a lighter note, I have my first Christmas cake mix in the oven now, what great value for money.
Many thanks to the OP, and for the info about the cupcake mix too. :T~ What goes around comes around ~0 -

Wish o had read the cooking times before putting in the oven. Didn't realise they took 4 hours!!!!!!
Kept me up much later last night than I intended.
Looks a bit overdone if anything.Money SPENDING Expert0 -

I don't have a cake tin big enough to put this in so could I use a Fox's metal biscuit tin (empty of course) greased and lined with parchment?0 -

Yes :j My gran used to use all the old sweet and biscuit tins for cooking cakes never seen any go wrong, :j0 -
Well I made the cupcakes and took 5 into work, oh my gosh they ate them within 2 mins! And they said they were amazing! I dont personally eat/like them but they went down very well and only took 30 mins to cook in the oven. I ate the leftover brandy butter icing though tee hee xx
PS I have got 2 more packs, and can see me buying about 5 more packs as it is sooo cheap and easy!!Slimming World Member - Started 05/02/150 -
Lisa my OH has been diabetic for over 25 years, 4 insulin injections a day and he eats Christmas cake. Diabetics thankfully no longer have to have a special diet (I can remember weighing everything out when hubby was first diagnosed). They just have to have a normal healthy diet, low fat, low sugar, the same as most of us should be eating.
I never buy special diabetic food or chocolate, diabetics can have normal chocolate but just a small amount. A couple of squares or a couple of chocolates out of a box will not harm him. It's the same with food, a small slice of cake or pudding as a treat every now and then is fine.
There's a recipe for Christmas Pudding on the Diabetes UK website, I'd recommend having a look at the recipes on there just to give you an idea:

You can make sugar-free custard using Birds Original Custard Powder (the one in the tub), skimmed milk and sweetening it with granulated sweetener. There's a thread on sugar-free baking over on the Old Style board:

Sorry for going off topic.
Thank you fir your post. I'm going to show it to pa as he doesn't seem to listen to me. He was more upset about his diabetes diagnosis than finding out he had cancer (well, he vocalised his upset more) as he says his life is over as he can't eat anything! Hopefully I can get him to realise the 'everything in moderation' motto. If my words are missing letters then please excuse me....my keyboard is a tad dodgy!!0 -
Princesswoo, your cakes look fantastic! Thanks for sharing. It might even tempt me to try and ice one of mine... :xmassmile
The £1 coupons work if you are buying a lot of other stuff (mostly whoopsies and wine!) and have the cake bags showing fairly prominently in the bag on the checkout. Then you say firmly, 'Oh, yes, and there are coupons for the cakes.' SA (young lad) just put them through as a non-scanning coupon so I did get them for £4 each!!! :j:j:j
Can someone tell me if everything inside is sealed up pretty please? I am thinking of giving the icing and marzipan away but don't want the rest of the stuff to go dry as I am not sure I am going to bake these cakes this year. (BB is Feb 2013 or something.)0 -

Chelle33, thanks for your reply to this one. MomentsOfSanity, would you let us know what happens to the paint on the tin after it has been in the oven for four hours? Thank you.0 -

yes they are all sealed up individually, you can open the big bag and have a look inside, you wont spoil any of the ingredients.
I marzipanned all of my cakes (badly) it wasnt very pretty looking but I knew I was going to hide it with the royal icing, which was a lot easier than you think. In fact I think Im addicted, im running out of people to give them too, lol.
I might buy a couple and keep then till february and make VALENTINES cakes, with them.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!:T0
