You have to place your card on the chip and pin machine for it to be read - if its more than 5mm away - it doesn't seem to work!0

I want it for convenience, granted there are not millions of shops which have adpoted it yet but all Mcdonalds, Cafe Nero use them, Co-op are rolling it out right now, plus I have seen it in quite a few small corner shops. I know that places in London are making a major push in time for the olympics, it won't be long before the rest of the country follows suit.
Thanks, will look in to it.
Maybe we should switch places? I've been trying my hardest for the last 6 months to get one and I can't, you want to get rid of yours and can't
For your information some Mastercards also offer the contactless feature as well as certain Visa cards. In my post I was merely sharing my practical observations you.
Having read your post it seems that you are unduly desperate for a contactless card, moreover you appear to be more in awe of the technology than in need of the convenience. If it appeases you somewhat I dare say that one day all cards may well be contactless.Money is a wise mans religion0 -
The difference with Barclays's 2 Visa debit cards, the contactless one is a not a FULL authorisation card and their other Visa debit card needs to be fully authorised, couldn't be used on a plane, train.
The numbers 4658 is the Full Authorisation card and the Contactless is 4659. I know because my hubby as asked them for the contactless and they say not at the moment, doesn't meet the criteria:o0 -
I am not sure if I have missed something here but the point of this type of contactless card is?......

Just back home from Finland with work and they have contactless technology everywhere - supermarkets, newsagents, hotels - you name it!
The UK is yet again far behind in technology!
I know I know the same story. It seems that people are more concerned about potential problems rather than potential benefits.0 -

Contactless cards are a little quicker and more convenient but are by no means the be all and end all like the person who started this thread seems to think. If I was not given a contactless card I would not go out of my way to get one.Money is a wise mans religion0 -
Can someone clarify if contactless mastercards can be used on the visa system ans vice versa? I'm sure I read that they weren't but can't find the reference again.0

Me neither ! Don't see the appeal really, how long does it take to use a PIN ? It's just another system to go wrong ! Some people just like to have the latest gadgets though don't they ?0 -

I have two Barclaycards, a Visa and a Mastercard. The couple of places in which I have used the contactless system have allowed me to use both cards. This leads me to believe that if a retailer has a contactless terminal then any card which they accept can be used to make a contactless payment. I hope that this helps. All the best.Money is a wise mans religion0
