Hi jwil
How long ago was this? We've moved flats twice already in the last 4 1/2 years and have been charged both times. 1st time we had to have a new line installed which was understandable, but the 2nd time (the flat we're now about to leave), there was an existing line and they only had to 'flick a switch' at the exchange, but still charged us the £120. Crazy money for the work involved!
We got the oven I mentioned from the freecycler today, we were so very lucky. It is completely unused, they hadn't even fitted the bars inside to put the shelves on. We fitted a plug to it to test it and it works perfectly.
The electrician on the other hand is going to cost a lot more than anticipated as there's a lot of work to be done to be sure everything is 100%. We'll scrape through but only if the boiler man doesn't find anything untoward.
Hope you feel better soon x
It was just over 2 years ago. It's ridiculous that they charge you just for switching the line on again when they don't need to do anything

Oh, what a shock that must have been Jacci, not surprising at all you went back on the cigs. Glad it's gone though, and fingers crossed it stays gone.
Take care of yourself xx"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -

Feeling great!! I applied for the uniform tax allowance for a job I had for 4 years where I had to wear a uniform. Not only did I get £64.18 for my looking after my uniform for that time BUT I was also told I had paid too much tax in 2006/7 and have been given a tax rebate of £400!! So that is £400 towards the Santander Credit Card and £64 for essentials. £400 down on my debt already!! I also won £57 on the lottery last week, and £10 on the lottery this week so that is another £67 towards my Santander Credit Card.
I have really put 100% into this challenge already, I have listed some old books on Green Metropolis, and some other bits and pieces on ebay. I am also keeping a jar of my change so I should make another reasonable dent in my debts very soon.Target: [STRIKE]£7079.85 [/STRIKE] £6344.30Santander Credit Card £467/[STRIKE]£1798.75[/STRIKE] £1331.75Barclay Card Credit Card £0/£1966.28Santander Loan £268.55/[STRIKE]£3000 [/STRIKE] £2731.45Capital One Credit Card £0/£314.82Lose 0/28lbsTry and make £10 a month of extra income/savings in spendingToal reduced since 08/03/12 = £735.550
