Egg to Barclaycard transition - NEW

Barclaycard charged interest on my account even though the full balance had been paid by direct debit. On speaking to them they agreed to refund the interst charge BUT the refund did not appear until the following month. If this is common practice, its a nice little earner for them0

I mailed them and despite an automated response saying that it might take 3 days instead of the usual 24hrs, they responded in under 24hrs saying everything is all set up and ready to go. I've kept that email very safe, just in case.
Mine went out, without incident.0 -
I did a partial payment early on in the month as I had a large balance, and also had a refund for something, and was not charged any interest, my regular DD cleared the balance on date as before (except that the date is one day later, which is OK for me - although I would like the DD to go through a bit BEFORE the due date).
My gripe today is that I was buying petrol at a pump which said 'pump only' and the credit card was declined although my debit card (glad I had it with me) was fine. Off to secure message Barclaycard now. They are awful and I am thinking of changing to the new Santander card.0 -

Happened to me but card worked fine inside!0 -
I have to say my transition has gone smoothly too except I managed to mislay the new card and had to request it cancelled and a new one, no idea where that will turn up LOL. Payment went through OK at the end of November, my egg card was up for renewal anyway0

Thought things was going smoothly until I checked my bank account today to find no payment was taken yet today.
After checking my new online account it appears my payment date has been bumped from what I was with Egg on the 5th to now the 12th without telling me.
No big irritation, but I set everything up with providers and suppliers so I would have all my bills paid at the beginning of the month allowing me to budget what was left more effectively.
But I have to agree with what others have said about barclaycard customer service. I closed my account with barclaycard about six years ago and went to Egg because of it so it's rather galling that I've ended back up with them."carpe that diem"0 -
I also thought everything was going well until they took about £700 more than I was expecting out of my current account today as a DD. (I'd had £700 worth of refunds onto my card and assumed that the owed balanced would be reduced by that amount - as it was with Egg)
Apparently not!
Despite the website clearly stating "The amount will be reduced by any payments received since your last statement".
A few frustrated phone calls to an Indian call centre later and they have "explained" their system. Refunds do not count towards reducing the current statement balance. (Hence why some people are getting charged interest when they thought they were paying off in full)
My DD was to pay off in full which means I am now overdrawn with no cash for christmas :-(
My next statement might end up a lot smaller than I expected but that's not how I've budgeted my cash flow. Very unhappy.
Incidently, as I'm now looking around for another credit card to replace barclaycard, does anyone know if Egg was unusual in applying refunds towards payment ? Will I be able to find another card that does this or are the rest like Barclaycard?0 -
I complained about the incorrect interest charges got a letter saying it would take a month to investigate the date came and went now got another letter saying it will take another month.
I am going to the ombudsman there service is a joke0 -
Found that when ordering goods over the phone from a number of suppliers that they could not match the address details - so all the other details matched, and the payment was authorised by Barclaycard to the supplier, the system that the supplier uses (SAGE) would not accept the payment. The payment was pending. Several addresses were tried - none worked. Have had 6 conversations with Barclaycard support (six hours on the phone). On several occasions they came up with something that they assured me would fix the issue. I was strongly urged to close the call because the issue was resolved! It wasn't. Eventually I was contacted by a supervisor. He said that they had done all they could so suggested a new card with a different number. That did not work so the problem will be escalated. The problem here is that the target for resolving the problem (obviously more technical) is up to 40 days.
I have tried 6 times or more to order the goods. Each time there was a hit on my account as pending transactions. I was told I could claim the money back. The supplier told me that they would not take any money so it would not appear on my statement - the supplier seemed to know more about the way the system worked than Barclaycard. Barclaycard told me that every line of my address had to match correctly. The suppliers told me that they just match the first line and postcode.
So I decided to try the VISA card - could not change the pin, so phoned the help desk. Transpired that egg had closed this account (so why did I get a barclaycard). After a lot of fuss they did something i had previously told was not possible. That was to reinstate the account. I was told I could now change the pin. Tried it and could not. Helpdesk again - nothing wrong here, so I was told I would be sent a reminder of my pin (suggesting human error on my part). A few days later a new card arrived with a letter saying the pin would be send in another letter (if I had requested one). Used the pin supplied which I was sent at the start. CARd activated - success.
Phoned to order goods -- address mismatch.
After each complaint I get an automated response. It seems that if you send additional information they reset the timer and you wait longer for a reply.
My DD payment was set up to be paid on the 28th of the month - the Egg payment was on the 1st month. This month I have had to clear two credit card bills.:(:(:( Complained as soon as I knew the payment date - told it would be changed. it didnt. complained again and told that it could not be changed for this month - but would be for the next.
Beware using their email system from the website. You have 10 minutes to enter your message, there is a timer on screen. After 8 minutes you are warned you have 2 minutes left and you are asked if you want more time - click on yes and the timer resets to 10. However I found that it does not seem to give you extra time as you get logged off (and loose your message) after a couple of minutes (perhaps the timer is NOT reset - it just looks as if it has ?)
At least the cards work in person. No Internet shopping for me this Christmas!0 -
