  • What a complete and utter scam. Maybe they shouldn't spend so much on their dreadful advertising campaigns and awful glossy magazines. The excess on my phone insurance was very quietly doubled a few months ago too. Moral? A big happy smiley chummy phone business on the outside - a typically money grubbing, profit seeking, shareholder pleasing megabusiness at heart.

they have to let you exit a contract without penalty, they cant put in terms and conditions somethin that contradicts the rules they are governed by its illegal.
These rules state: "Providers shall give subscribers adequate notice not shorter than one month of any modifications likely to be of material detriment.
"Providers must allow subscribers to withdraw from their contract without penalty upon such notice." After the person i spoke to tried to fob me off and her manager did they finally agreed to cancel it when I quoted the above.
  • Firstly has anyone successfully cancelled their contract with Orange as yet?

I have spoken with and written to Orange. I have also complained to Ofcom. I have posted a comment on their Facebook page and other social media sites.

The Orange call handler tried to convince me that other phone network providers have also increased their in-contract tarrifs.

I hope that people vote with their feet and leave Orange when the contracts come up. It is the only way these companies ever listen. They can go stuff their 10% loyalty bonus.....sorry I mean 6% loyalty bonus.

Orange's restated operating cash flow (EBITDA - CAPEX) for the first nine months of 2011 was 7.880 billion euros. They expect to have an operating cash flow target of 9 billion euros. I am guessing that I am not the only one who doesn't sympathise with Orange right now.

Do people realise that they won a Corporate Social Responsibility award in 2010. They better not win this again this year!
  • on phone just now to orange - call will be answered within 30mins lol

If Ofcom step in and rule this is illegal, Orange will simply backtrack on the price increase and no one will get any shiny new phones, until Ofcom say anything (and they won't because they have no real power) the price increase will stand.

Iand2083, how long was left of your contract? Which price plan was it? Also which dept did you speak to?
If customer services have given in over 4.3.1 then we could do with more info please...thanks.

I've just had a reply to my template letter saying they can't provide a CISAS reference as its been passed to the legal dept.
  • This is outrageous, I’ve been an Orange customer for 12 years, during which time they have never enforced this RPI clause, they didn’t have to do this, but the the executives have chosen to raid their customers accounts to ensure their profits. Although this rise of 4.34% will only work out to be just over £1 a month for me and my wife each in total with our 2 year contract it will cost us around £40 extra! If every company put up their prices by the RPI rate or just under, we’d have inflation spiraling up to Zimbabwe’s levels! This move not only shows disregard for Orange’s customers but for the UK’s fragile economic state!
I spoke to their customer services today for over 45mins trying to get some answers and along the way I found out that it seems Orange hasn’t increased it’s employees pay with a cost of living increase equal to RPI!!! Whilst on the phone I also worked out that the cost of my call to Orange would have been at least £4.50 due to their staff time alone, with these extra charges for me now I think I’ll be making sure I get at least £2 (20 mins if they’re paid minimum wage) worth of customer services time every month from now on, if everyone else did this they’d not put their prices up again and other companies would definitely not follow suit!

Also, I WILL be contacting Ofcom on Monday, I suggest everyone else does too!

Finally congratulations Orange on employing an executive team who’s just broken 100% of it’s customers trust!
    Good luck everyone!
