The nearest I've got to sewing today is darning hubby's socks, other projects I need to get on with include making a white linen cushion with a gingham heart on it with chicken scratch on the gingham, making some gift bags from a blouse I bought from a CS, just because I thought the fabric looked useful and I need to make some more dolls clothes for DGD's dolly.

Thanks Bellaquidsin, they are tab top so I can't do that but I have to say if they were tape top that would not have occured to me, so thank you! Just have to hope I can sew a straight hem...June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

I have today completed my first sewing project since I was a girl, a draft excluder for the living room door:)
My Mum had to remind me how to thread a sewing machine, which I borrowed off a friend, but I am really chuffed with it and it has inspired me to try a couple of other projects; curtains and a blind for the kitchen and a sun dress for me as I can never find one I like.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

Jenny as I said in my first post there is The Sewing Room, that is why this is The Annexe as a lot of us Old Stylers post here and are just picking it up again after so long or just starting from scratch and it just seems an Old Style thing to do and I wondered why we didn't have an Old Style thread. Maybe we can have some cross board meets
you can come and chat to us and we can come and chat to you

good idea for a thread here I think...
I bought a sewing machine last month but apart from trying it out on an old pillowcase have yet to use it for lack of material..
In the meantime I am spending way too much time reading some of the millions of lovely craft blogs on the internet and dreaming of doing patchwork projects...
Will be coming to the uk next week so hope to pick up some material then... In the meantime have started cutting up old jeans to hsve a go at a cushion or bag.0 -

You'll be fine - just use a ruler and an ordinary pencil and draw a line on the wrong side. And go slowly!0 -
I have a Janome (my trusty go-to) a manual Singer (about 80 years old) and a toy mini machine (for tiny projects and card making).
I'm signing up for a quilting/patchworking course which starts in January and am looking forward to it!0 -
Thought I'd share the project I'm currently working on. They're slippers made from pure wool jumpers that I felted in the washing machine. I picked up the jumpers from charity shops, and luckily for me the one I volunteer in let's me have a rake in their rag bags for a donation!
So I did a trial run using my DD's doll, and they've came out really well! If anyone wants a go here's the tutorial I followed: http://thrillinglythrifty.blogspot.com/2010/10/recycled-wool-sweater-slippers-tutorial.html

Free patterns and stuff, thought the site looked great until I came across words like 'Interfacing' and 'Bias-tape' now I'm terrified again!June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500
