I've just contacted the Yorkshire Building Society and they haven't set a policy yet, told to ring back again.

Fingers crossed, I think they owe me £150.
  • Just rang the Halifax after reading this Forum. Didn't know how much the exit fee was originally when I took out the mortgage in 1989. The lady I spoke to told me it was apparently only £20 then, and that they will be sending me a cheque for the £155 difference between that, and what I paid in May 06. Thanks Martin!
  • Also wrote to the woolwich claiming £45 from 2004, not yet heard anything. Tried ringing them on the number from one of the above posts, but they said they can't access my details at the moment, as they're not transferred onto the system yet (sounds like BS) & will ring back.

Well they did ring back, owing more than I thought, £100 plus £12 interest, paid directly into my bank. I thought the original MEAF was £150, but it was £95.
    Next year we'll be millionaires!

First time post, But had to report a success from Barclays/Woolwich, Moved house and mortgage in October 2006 we had taken out our previous mortgage in March 2003. Upon looking up on my closing statement we had been charged £275.00 final fee.
Gave Barclays a ring yesterday on 08000 234180, they took our details and she agreed there and then to refund £180.00 plus interest straight into our account. Yippee :j

In the money this morning also at last a refund of £107.00 from British Gas that we have been struggling to get back since October also.

Thanks Martin For the great Tips

Hi, I am currently switching my mortgage from Halifax and I phoned and asked the what fee I would have to pay, They told me £225. Will they automatically help themselves to this or do I have to pay them direct? Also the mortgage states a fee of £100, when do I query? Sorry to sound thick but I havent got a clue!!

I am also currently switching (to ING Direct), my original document stated £95 but the newer yearly mortgage statement from Coventry BS stated £195. So to prevent any slip ups I phoned them and quoted FSA findings etc. After some arguing they checked and advised they will honour the orginal figure and are sending me a letter confirming it will be £95 and also amending their system - This should prevent the incorrect ammount being taken and thus problems later!! If I were you I would do the same: Get it confirmed in writing and get confirmation its being changed on their system to original amount.
  • Hi,

Has anyone managed to find a discharge fee quoted by Abbey for 2003. My Mortgage offer does not mention any discharge fee, and the standard mortgage conditions quoted (2002) only have a vague cost description of "all admin costs incurred..."

I have seen posts quoting 2005 fees at £99, yet in October 2005 I was charged £225 "repayment fee" even though I was outside of my original fixed rate deal.

    Any ideas???
    Thanks

This link will take you to thisismoney which lists most of the big ones.

According to this, Abbey was £99 till May 05, so you should be able to claim £225 - £99!!!!! - £116!!!!! And ask for interest too

Why is it always that the Woolwich seem to drag their feet in such issues. I paid a £275 redemption fee with them last year with an original MEAF of £50 so a letter is being sent tommorrow and let's see what happens.

    err they're not any more.
    See my earlier post
  • No probs with Woolwich. Just phoned and within 5 mins have a refund of £144.44 ! Many thanks

Called the Woolwich, they say they don't owe me anything as I paid £95 exit fee. I didn't I paid £275. Seems if you just repaid it over the phone as I did they never sgenerated or sent a redemption certificate so they don't know what you paid. They are looking into it, if required I'll have to send my bank statements showing the mortgate balanve prior to paying off and the amount transfered to cover it.

Sorry for replying to my own post, but as an update they gave me a refund, I'm £180 + interest better off.

Only problem was they were supposed to ring me and tell me when they resolved it and didn't so I was wondering why I had this odd £202 in my bank account as they just listed it as a Cash deposit and no reference. The open plan line just said it was a cash deposit, they didn't know anymore. I had to re-call them to confirm it was that refund.

If your in the same boat, and the Woolwich haven't phoned back check the account you gave them. I called monday they did the refund tuesday, Pity they haven't bothered ringing me, but as I got the refund I'm not too annoyed.

Dunno why I'm happy about it, it was my money in the first place...
