The Dreaded West Bromwich building society - who charged me a £300 exit fee ....I wrote to them with a slightly amended template, but got a reply back saying they are currently reviewing the mortgage exit fees policy - and will respond within 28 days......
I already have a complaint at FOS re the time it took to agree what exit charges I would pay .....think this may go against me now .........
Please let me know if anybody hears anything different from the west brom0 -
New to site in last month or so, so first post. Lots of useful advice here.
I just had a re-mortgage completed this Monday and previous lender Royal Bank Of Scotland charged £225 in contrast to the £75 fee listed in the tarriff when I opened the mortgage in 2001. Spoke to them today and they're "reviewing the FSA report" and will "be contacting all previous customers soon". This seemed like a fob-off to me so I've drafted off a letter using Martin's templates.
I've also just spoken to Halifax who I was with from 1994 (with a £40 exit fee) to 2001 when I was charged £75. So I've been promised the £35 refund but due to it being closed quite a while back the application is going via the "business centre who may require further information".
So sounds promising, thanks to Martin and all here for the important information.0 -
Got my payment from the woolwich quickly, as it was paid by chaps. I wonder if that cost the woolwich the £25 they charge us for chaps, I think not, maybe another case for the FSA to investigate.Next year we'll be millionaires!0

I received an offer from Northern Rock of £65 difference between £95 and £160 when mortgage was redeemed in 2003.
I am wondering whether I should argue that the original £95 exceeded their costs and can not be justified also what about interest?
Is this worth trying?0 -

I rang the Halifax on Tuesday. They told me the quoted fee was £75 when I took out the mortgage in 2002, and I was charged £175 exit fee last year.
On Thursday I got a bankers draft for £100.
Thanks Martin!0 -
I had an 'adverse lender' mortgage with Platform a few years ago. Not sure if I want to chase them up as they were very unpleasant. Has anyone had any dealings with them??0
