Just phoned Cheltenham & Gloucester and they offered refund of additional amount plus interest straight away.:rotfl:
I sent C&G a letter regarding a mortgage I had with then for 12 years from 1989 - 2201, as I did not have my acc/role number I could only give them my old address. I have just received a response saying they have no records of my mortgage and cannot proceed without a role number!!!! They remebered me for 12 years...I never missed a payment!!!0 -
Just wanted to write this for anyone who is nervous about phoning up about claiming back these fees.
I took out a mortgage with Standard Life in 2003 and fees then were £150. When I re-mortgaged in May 2006 I was charged £200 and £30 for deeds release.
When I rang up, I said I wanted to talk about getting a refund of the fees I was charged when I left Standard Life. The man didn't need me to over explain or go into detail (phew, cos I didnt know what I was talking about really, I was totally chancing my arm!!). Anyway he said he would pass this on to the right dept and I should receive a letter, AND a cheque. Wow that easy!! He say they are busy (cos they have had loads of enquiries!!) and it would take 5-7 days. Don't know what I will get back but anything is better than nothing. So far so good. So get dialling even if you dont know what you are talking about. They have had so many calls they will know what you mean and process it anyway probably.
I was originally quoted £150 in 2003 when I got my mortgage in 2003, when I remortgaged in 2006 they charged me £200. I appealed this recently. they have written to me today sending a cheque for £50.00 Yippee. Should I accept this, or ask them why they charged £150 and want more back. Don't want to be greedy, but would like more if they are prepared to give it to me. Any advice?0 -
Lobsterchops have you got nothing anywhere with the number on? Perhaps a letter or something left with your new mortgage papers from 2001. Some of mine turned up with the solicitors papers I had stashed away. Hope you find something.0

I phoned Bradford & Bingley last week re the fees, I was advised to write in with whatever details I had. I did not have account details to hand so just gave them approximate dates. On Monday I received a letter stating they were looking into it. Today I received a letter stating I was charged £140 at the time ( believed to be in 2004) and their current charge is £75. I was offered the difference of £65 which I accepted.
Thanks very much again Martin

I repaid a mortgage with the halifax a few years ago and was apparently only charged £30 so no go there. My current mortgage is also with the Halifax. They informed me that the fees were £175 when I signed up but have since been reduced to £75 - so what with the Cheque from Bradford & Bingley
(last message) I am quids in again thanks to Martin0 -
Nine months ago I paid off my mortgage and incurred a Mortgage Exit Fee. I contacted Halifax on the phone number shown on the list and found it was a dedicated service for Exit Fees. After giving my details I was informed that I would be receiving a cheque for £155. Surely it would have been better if this had been done automatically as I would have known nothing about this without Martin. The cheque arrived a few days latter. So many thanks Martin.0

I wrote to my previous mortgage provider,Bristol & West, on 7th March in order to claim back the £195 fees that I have been charged.
They have replied to me on th 15th March to say that they are looking into my request.
My question is is there a set time frame for them to give me a full reply to my enquiry and, if so, can someone let me know what it is.
Many thanks0 -
I am in the process of re-mortgaging and asked NatWest for a redemption statement. (Mortgage started in 2004) On it they charged me £225 'sealing fee'. I checked my paperwork and found absolutely nothing quoted about fees at the end of the mortgage. So i called and quoted rates i found on the internet https://www.thisismoney.co.uk. He told me i was wrong but checked with a supervisor. Lo and behold...they said i was right and that i can deduct £125 from that charge. (when i started the mortgage it should have been £100) When they know what they are doing is wrong, why are they still trying to get away with it???? Shame on them!
I took the name of the person i spoke to and he confirms he has received an email stating the correct fees for each year. Send me a message and i can pass it on if you are having trouble.
Good luck!

Just had a cheque for £95 this morning.
We paid a £195 redemption fee last year, but I looked back and the original agreement was for a fee of £100. I filled in a template letter, posted it off and Scotish Widows refunded the difference with no quibbles.
Thanks for your help Martin!0
