Nice n easy!!:heart2: Cookiepops :heart2:0 -
Took out mortgage with Bristol & West in 2001 and redeemed in 2006. Exit fee had risen from £100 to £195. Sent off standard letter (including claim for interest) and they offered to refund £95. I responded by email asking again for statutory interest. Have received a letter today agreeing to refund £95 plus interest of £8 - a small amount but a victory nevertheless! Many thanks to moneysavingexpert....0

Great result!!! After hearing all these success stories on here i thought i'd give skipton a ring(Monday) bearing in mind they've just reduced their MAEF from 175 to £125.
I just told gentlemen on phone about wasn't happy as reducing this, was evidence that the costs were not in proportion to actual costs. He said he would put in a complaint and low and behold a cheque for £50 drop on my mat this morning.............Don't ask ya don't get.
Thanks MSE0 -
After seeing the article on Martin's site I downloaded the letter, amended to reflect my circumstances and sent it off to Standard Life. I changed my mortgage last June and was charged £200 exit fee. When I checked original offer (never throw anything away!) it clearly stated no exit fee.
Standard Life were very prompt once I pointed this out and sent me the cheque for £200 within 2 weeks, with full apology. Arrived today.

Hi there - have been following the MSE emails for a while. Thought I would try my luck with the Abbey as my original exit fee was £85.00, but just as i came up to the end of my five year tie-in, they informed me it had gone up to £225.00. I changed my mortgage six months ago, so I rang the number given by MSE and filled in the form Abbey sent to me. As of today I am £140.00 better off! Thanks Martin and team!0

I wrote a letter based on the templates but did not quote what my original exit fee agreement was, as I did not know. I got a reply within 10 days telling me that it was £40 in my original contract, I had been charged £275 and that I would receive a cheque for £235. This arrived within a week.0

Chuffed to bits with this and what a result, £125 back in my pocket. Thanks Martin.
I called NatWest direct on 0845 721 2600 and within 5 minutes I'd been informed that the money would be in my account within 10 days. They admitted having charged over the £100 originally stated on the mortgage gubbins and didn't quibble about handing the £125 back that they'd overcharged. Magic)
