Mortgage Exit Fees successes and failures

Just phoned the number as given on this web site. Took less than 3 minutes. You only need the mortgage acc no and address, you dont need all the contract details, unless you dont believe them. They pay up straightaway, no haggling with interest. One of the quickest ways to get your money back. Well done Woolwich and Barclays, and many thanks Martin as usual for the excellent advice and site. You need to be knighted or something soon!!!0

Has anybody had any luck with IF ?
I started with them in 2000 and switched in jan 07.
I rang them without success as they said the fees they charge are minimum and the FSA report does not affect them.Strange as they are part of Halifax and there have been loads of success stories from ex halifax custs.
Any help,advice muchly appreciated.
I have no paper work or anything as binned it all.
Not sure what I am entitled to.0 -
Hi there - this is my first time on here, but it's a success story already!
Having read the article about mortgage exit fees, I have just phoned Woolwich up on the dedicated number, given them the account number, address of property and my name, and hey presto, straight away they said I was entitled to £180 plus interest back and which bank account would I like it paid into (within the next 5 working days). The whole phone call, done and dusted, took 4 minutes!
Fantastic!!:j

I have just rung the Cheltenham and Gloucester, they looked me up on the computer and offered me £125 plus interest. Even better if you use the regional number or freephone and ask for the mortgage department.

Hi to all,Can anyone help with the reply i got from Bristol&West, posted on Friday. The facts are took out mortgage with Bristol & West June 1997 and was charged exit fee £150 on 11 Sept 2003.They are saying i think that there fee in June 1997 was 87.50 plus there 10 days interest to 11th Sept2003 of £70.80means a total of £158.30 and according to them i have benefited??Here is their reply.....After reviewing our records I note that you were charged a fee of £150 to redeem your mortgage on 11th September 2003.This was a standard fee that was charged to all our customers and which was inline with market practice at the time.Under the terms prevailing at the time of completion of your mortgage in June 1997,you would have been charged £87.50 plus 10 days interest, atotal amount of £158.50.You have therefore benefited from the amendment to our fees over the period of your mortgage`
Any help appreciated and thanks to Martin, result from Coventry and Halifax0 -
Hi can anyone help.
I have just contacted A&L and have been told that they are only refunding people who have exited their mortages in 2007!
They are telling me it is their rules not to refund anyone from Dec 2006 backwards.
Can anyone suggest what else I can do? I took my morgage in July 2003 and closed it in Jan 2006.
Thanks!0 -
I'm absoluteley delighted, I have just made one phone call to Cheltenham & Gloucester, gave my account number, name on the mortgage and address at the time, they told me how much they told me the exit fee was at the beginning and what they actually charged us on exit and then said they would refund the difference plus interest. I am to receive a cheque for £138 in the next 5-10 days. What a result! Thank you Martin Lewis x.:j0

I suspect that the person you spoke to didn't know what they were talking about. I would call again.0 -
