I am in total agreement with you. This is not rocket science to be claiming intrest and I am amazed and really disappointed that members are happy just to claim the overpayment. It seems that a refund payment of £100 is better
than £125.The banks etc aren't giving you the real deal.Make sure you get it as they are quick to charge a fee and intrest if you don't pay on time or go into the red.

Thank you for your kind words Isayoldchap.
I will let you all know how I get on with the interest claim.
No response yet from Mortgage Express but it is very early days as the letter only went out last week.

To everyone else - I really do encourage you to seek interest on the money you are owed. After all these companies are very very good at charging you interest when the shoe is on the other foot. They should be more than experienced enough to verify interest calculations! I realise that it is not always going to be a large sum of money but surely an extra £20 or £25 of your money is better in your pocket than theirs.

Hi, Just had a letter from the Halifax asking if I will accept a cheque from them for £155, once again a victory for MSE
  • Hi

Im new to this but thought I would share my good news with you all.

I contacted the Halifax today and was informed that I would get £100 back from them.

They did say that it could take up to 28 days for it to arrive - but at least i'm getting back what I am entitled to !!!!!!!! :j

The number I used to contact them on was 08457 27 37 47
  • I paid £195 exit fee to the Bank of Ireland in January 2007. My original mortgage agreement from 2000 stated that the fee would be £145.
Should I accept their offer of a £50 refund ?
  • remarkable................today I called the Halifax to ask about the mortgage exit fees as we changed mortgage provider last february to be with the bank I work for and guess what........ we had been over charged by £100. We should have paid only £75 not £175, she assessed the claim over the phone and said we qualified. I then mentioned we moved into our first house in 1996 and then did a remortgage to buy the house we are in now in 2003 and she said she would check that one. The mortgage on our first property was redone in April 2003 and yes we were overcharged by £35 so in a couple of weeks we will have a cheque for £135 from the halifax. no forms to fill in, really helpful and easy :j :j 2 minutes on the phone and £135 better off:T Hope everyone else manages good results easily too.........
Love my job in the bank and am proud to say that, however I only do what is right for the customer no matter what, probably why I am on top of customer service nominations by my customers :A
  • Hi Does Anyone Know What Abbeys Redemption Fee For 2002 Was??

    Thanks
  • I got £95 back from Northern Rock and £75 from Mortgage Works. The Leeds have also said that we will be due a refund of £107. Thanks for the advice....only took a few minutes to send letters. Certainly quicker than reclaiming bank fees!

Wise words but looking at the next lot of posts again members are still just going for the difference. They are letting the banks keep the intrest.
  • Just received a letter from Northern Rock, offering me a refund of £35, from when I exited my mortgage 4 years ago. I was charged £195 to leave, and I have original documentation informing me that it would cost £85 to leave. Are they trying to fob me off? Should I take the money OR should I hold out and push to get the difference? Suggestions on a postcard to.....
Destiny struggles to re-assert the pattern that was meant to be.

I'm guessing that you might have switched product between your original loan (with the £85 fee quoted) and redeeming, in which case the correct fee would be the one at the time you switched? If not, then yes, you should ask them for the correct amount.
