Princess_Katrina wrote: »Hi,
I am a moneysaving newbie and I call Northern Rock to see what my charges were. They said I signed a the contract for a £250 exit fee so this is what they took. Can I still attempt to claim under unfair fees as there exit fee is now £0? It seems a little unfair that I had no other option but to agree to that amount.
Let me know if you have any thoughts.
Thanks

I had a mortgage with Bank of Scotland from 2004 to 2006. Don't have any details other than the address of the property. I rang up their mortgage department but the guy on the phone said he couldn't do anything. When I mentioned the FSA he seemed flustered and gave me an address to write to. Anyone had any experiences of claiming with no account number etc. Or anybody know the appoximate fees they were charging. Any help appreciated.
You are very unlikely to have been overcharged over the date range you quote.
If you search this thread there is a link to https://www.thisismoney.com where there is a table of MEAFs charged at different points in time.0 -
I have just called C&G and they can't help as I don'thave my mortgage account number. They reckon they can't search on address and name? Does that sound right?0

No, they are making it up.
You should be able to get it from your bank, though, as it will be the reference under which your DD was collected or your SO was paid.0 -

Hi I need some help, im trying to claim from principality, did remortgage in 2004 and was charged 125.00 transfer fee to give them my business again. Is this right?:rolleyes:0 -
It depends what you mean. If you had a mortgage with Principality and merely switched products - on the same house - in 2004, then you didn't remortgage and you didn't pay an MEAF. So this thread doesn't apply to you, and the £125 fee is a fee you chose to pay and which isn't reclaimable.0

I just wanted to report my recent success with Alliance & Leicester.
I sold a property 5 years ago and at the time I was charged a redemption charge of £85 and a repayment fee of £877. I called A&L about a month ago, they refunded the smaller amount straight away and I had to contact them a couple of times to request they look into the other amount. I have now got all my money back which is fantastic.
The £877 should have been waived since I stayed with A&L, just with a different mortgage product. Definitely worth digging out your old paperwork.0 -
Staying with A&L on a different mortgage product is not, in general, a reason for an ERC to be waived.
But A&L did operate like that until some time - maybe around 5 years ago - when they changed to the more normal method of only refunding ERCs if you ported the product to the new property.0 -
I didn't port the product to a new property.
The small print stated that the charge would be waived if I took out a new mortgage with them on a new property, which is what I did.0 -
I didn't have the documentation showing what charge I'd agreed to when I took out my mortgage with Scottish Widows Bank (redeemed 18 months ago), but did have the lawyer's statement showing that they charged me £100. I simply downloaded the template letter from the website, sent it off and 10 days later received a cheque for £54, no questions asked. Result!0
