  • Thanks for the heads up Martin.
My first phone call resulted in a blank but polite letter from A&L saying "No".
A follow up call challenging their decision resulted in them caving in completely and sending a cheque for the full £295!
Don't give in first time folks!
    Cheers

  • I just got a result from Northern Rock! £250 and I didn't really expect to get a bean - sent off the template letter a few days ago and got a letter this morning to say that because my mortgage pre-dated mortgage exit fees, and they had charged me £250 when I redeemed it they would send me a full £250 refund. Brilliant!!!

Easy success:beer: Phoned Alliance & Leicester a few days ago, armed only with my old account no. Had pleasant five minute call, in which I said I'd like to claim back anything that might be due to me for being overcharged on exit fees. Received nice letter and cheque for £220 today. If you're thinking of contacting A & L it really is as easy and pleasant as that! Works out as £2640 per hour of effort:cool:
  • Hi,

I am a moneysaving newbie and I call Northern Rock to see what my charges were. They said I signed a the contract for a £250 exit fee so this is what they took. Can I still attempt to claim under unfair fees as there exit fee is now £0? It seems a little unfair that I had no other option but to agree to that amount  .

Let me know if you have any thoughts.

    Thanks
    Katrina

My mortgage endedin June 2006 and I was charged £225 to close it.
When I read the article I claimed from Abbey National that my Deeds release was £50 not £225.
10 days have now passed and I received a cheque for £175.
    Thank you.
  • Thank you Martin

I have successfully reclaimed £126 from Abbey after we left them 3 years ago. Didn't know anything about this until recently seeing your info on this site!

  • After reading the email I looked at my closing statement from Natwest in 2007 and saw a sealing fee of £225. I promptly looked up all the information in the tables and filled in the template letter.

I have just received £162.40 which represents the difference and the interest element, eventhough in the tables it says that Natwest won't pay the interest.

Thank you MoneySavingExpert, £162.40 for writing one letter and the cost of a stamp.

    Hi you wonderful people,

I started my 2 yrs fixed mortgage with A&L in Nov 2007 £90000 @ 6.34%. I am currently financially educating my self and looking into the possibility of changing my provider and have a couple of questions.

My contract states that the sealing fee is £295 and early repayment is 3% (£2700).

I know about reclaiming exit fees after the event but how would I go about about avoiding them altogether?

I guess the early repayment fee I am lumbered with and it is telling me that I am best sticking to this deal until Nov before looking for a new mortgage. Does this seem correct?

    Thanks for any replies.

    Another MSE sucess!
Had a mortage with The Chelsea until August 06 - called them up they said that they I had been charged an exit fee of £175 and would look into what was on the original agreement and, if necessary, send a refund. Had been on the phone for exactly two minutes! A cheque arrived two days later for £90. As they say, every little helps!

I had a mortgage with Bank of Scotland from 2004 to 2006. Don't have any details other than the address of the property. I rang up their mortgage department but the guy on the phone said he couldn't do anything. When I mentioned the FSA he seemed flustered and gave me an address to write to. Anyone had any experiences of claiming with no account number etc. Or anybody know the appoximate fees they were charging. Any help appreciated.
