  • Hi, we transferred our mortgage from Halifax to Staffordshire as it was then in 2003, unfortunately, I don't have our mortgage account number or roll number for the Halifax, anyone know how I would go about claiming the fee back with no details?

    Thanks:o
  • Whilst tidying up some mortgage papers I noted that I had been charged £100 when changing from a C&G to Nationwide mortgage back in 2002. Used Martin's letter and sent to C&G on Wednesday 18th February. Got a cheque back for £83 (inc interest) on Saturday 22nd February! Thank you MSE and well done to C&G!:j
  • Hi, never done this before so bear with me. Contacted A&L last Wednesday and as I did not have my mortgage account number I had to answer some security questions and the very nice lady found my details. She told me my contract stated £195 and I actually paid £295 in 2006. She told me I would get a letter in the next 5 days and I should get £100 refund within 30 days. Less than one week later I have received a cheque for £220 (A&L have reduced their mortgage exit fees to £70 and wanted me to have the difference!!!!) Wow thankyou Martin xx

  • i cant believe how easy it was
i phoned Chelsea yesterday with nothing more than my account number
they looked at my account and said that I had overpaid and they would be in touch..whole phone call took 3 minutes
    today received a cheques for £90 in post :T :T :T
  • Just made phone call to Woolwich as advised on MSE site.
I was told by a very helpful lady that I was charged £195 in 2004 and that it should have been £38.50.
So they are paying the difference of £156.50 plus the interest of £29.24 (total £185.74) directly in to my account in the next 3-5 days.
    It has made my day!
Thanks to Martin and all at MSE.:T
  • On Martin's advice I contacted my previous mortgage provider, Northern Rock as I was charged £175 when I re-mortgaged to another lender in 2005, to re-claim this back.

I recieved a letter 2 weeks later saying basically "You were charged £175 and this was the DOM fee at the time your most recent mortgage contract began. As a result, we have arranged to refund the difference between the amount charged (£250) and the fee that applied at the start of this mortgage (£175)"

In short they will only offer £75 and want me to sign something so i never bother them again! Is this right? I just cant understand where the £250 has come from, and why they are not paying me the full £175??
    Can anyone offer any advice?

    Thanks :)
  • Bradford & Bingley charged me £140 redemption fee in 2002 instead of the £75 I agreed to in 1998. Today I received confirmation they will refund £65 "as a gesture of goodwill" I'm very pleased, thanks for the tip.
  • Made a quick phone call and received £68 from Barclays for a Woolwich mortgage I redeemed in 2003. Also got £210 from A & L four days after writing to them using the template supplied ( redeemed that mortgage in 2005). Easiest money I've ever made. Big thanks Martin.

Based on what they've said, you are entitled to nothing - you should have paid £175, and you paid £175.

But they've mistakenly paid you £75 on the basis that you paid £250.

So you are £75 ahead of where you should be.

Why on earth do you think you should be paid "the full £175"?
  • I contacted Northern Rock about my £250 mortgage fee and received a letter saying they were not going to refund me but if I wanted to appeal, I could, so I did. The orginal fee was £150.

Three days later I got an acceptance letter from Northern Rock asking if I would accept the whole £250 refund, of course I accepted.

    Thanks Martin!
