Changed mortgage from Alliance and Leicester to Nationwide in June 2004 and paid £195 MEAF. Rang up A&L this morning ad they said i'd get my money back within 28 days.
Unsure of the amount yet as they had to look back to what the charge was in 2002. The whole thing took about 5 minutes and as I didn't have my old account number to hand, all they needed was the postcode.

Read about the meaf on mse on 3/6/08, sent template letter on 4/6/08 after phoning Leek united builging socity to find out how much I was charged(£125), and how much I should have been charged(£30) as stated in my contract. Recieved a cheque from them for £125.40 (£95 overcharge+£30.40 interest) on 6/6/08. Couldn't beleive how quick and easy it was. Thanks MSE.:T0

My first post! - Can I just say how much I like reading all the posts, hint and tips etc - in particular the Money Saving Old Style.
I just wanted to let you know that I wrote to Nationwide and they replied saying that they charge an admin fee of £90 to look into the matter for you - I didn't have a fee to be refunded. I feel this is a bit of a rum deal to be honest!2019, move forward with positivity! I am the opposite of Eyeore :rotfl:0 -
Hi All, just to report that I had a mortgage with NORTHERN ROCK for 4 years, joining in 2001. I couldnt find any paperwork pre 2003, when the exit fee was £175, so I decided to phone my grievance at having been charged £250. The lady representative was very good, telling me Northern rock had a fund set up for this, giving me an address to write to. Three days later I got a letter to sign for the difference (£90) and Two days later the cheque, easy as pie. Many thanks everyone.0

Hi Guys, are requested my 'Mortgage Repayment Fee' from Abbey the reponse I get back =
Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding the Mortgage Repayment Fee that was paid when you closed your Abbey Mortgage account.
Having considered this carefully I regret that you are ineligible for a refund.
The reason for this is that the terms of your mortgage clearly specified a Mortgage Repayment Fee of £225
I hope you feel I have I have offered a fair response to you and this now closes the matter. I will keep your file open for the next 8 weeks in case you want to contact me again. If I do not hear from you within that time, I will assume that everything is resolved and will close your file accordingly. However, if you remain dissatisfied, the leaflet you will find with this letter explain your rights and how to take your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman service.
What should I write back?? is there another templete letter?0 -
Nothing to write back about - you agreed an account fee of £225 when you took the mortgage out so there's nothing unfair about it.0

I have been changed 225 on this link says I should have been charged £85 http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/mortgage-fees#guide
So I can't do anything ???
