Mortgage Exit Fees successes and failures

I called Alliance & Leicester on the off chance, (all my paper work in the loft as we exited this mortgage 5 years ago) the lady I spoke to was very helpful and advised she would pass my request on to the relevant department.
5 days later a letter arrived in the post thanking me and going on to say that they had looking into my case and indeed I had been overcharged, my contract was for £75 and I had paid £85 and therefore they were delighted to re-imbursed me the difference of £10 and included the cheque.
The £10 cheque has now paid for statements from Capital One as I am claiming for late payment fees for my credit card!!!!!!

i had a buy to let mortgage with paragon. when i remortgaged i had a redemption sealing fee of £150.00 and a deeds release fee of £88.13 altogether making £238.13 both of which were not included on the original contract when i first set up the mortgage. when i wrote to paragon they stated that because my mortgage was commercial and not my own place of residence that this falls outside the FSA guidance. They stated that because it is a commercial arrangement that they have the ability to set the exit fee at its current level and it is not their policy to waive or refund that fee. please can someone let me know that this is correct.0

Hello
Just found some Documentation from 2001 (yes, almost 7 years ago!)
NatWest mortgages charged me over £1400 MEAF (it wasn't a Fixed deal or anything)
Despite the time lapse, do you think I would have a case if I applied to them for a refund?

When I telephoned to redeem my mortgage, Direct Line originally said it would cost £85 to release the deeds. When the paperwork arrived the Deeds Release Fee was £99 which was the amount I had expected as it tallies with what's in their latest T&Cs. Fairly reasonable compared with some companies. However, following your experience I rang up again and queried this as I was pretty sure that there wasn't a fee when I took out the mortgage in 1999. The pleasant chap I spoke to said I was quite right and to just deduct the £99 pounds! Everything has subsequently gone through smoothly. Thanks for the advice.0

Hi money savers
We've just been refunded in FULL our Northern Rock Mortgage Exit fees. (£250!) We're absolutely thrilled! All we did was use the template letter from this website, to which they replied telling us their fees were justified. We then wrote a further letter saying we were taking legal action and requsted that they provide us with a full breakdown of how they arrived at this figure. Bingo - we received a letter yesterday offering us the FULL amount! We were really surprised as we weren't even asking for the full amount. We can only think it must have been our threat of legal action. Thanks Martin Lewis! You're a star!0 -
Hello it's my first time on here so excuse any errors please.
Martin's MEAF template has so far worked for us but only partly. We wrote to our ex mortgage provider claiming fees back on two mortgages and also for the Deed Release Fee which they had also increased by £35 and we added the interest calculation.
They reply offered as "full and final settlement" the balance between the original Mortgage Exit Fee and that actually charged - fine. However, they say it would be inappropriate to pay us the interest and have made no reference to the Deed Release Fee.
This is another £70 so we feel it is worth challenging. Two questions though.
1. Are "Deed Release Fees" also covered in the FSA ruling?
and..
2. Will we jeopardize the first offer by attempting to get the rest?
Anyone experienced similar? Thanks in advance for any advice.
